What is D*SIRE?

D*SIRE is a coalition against sexual assault and relationship violence. D*SIRE’s goals are to educate the SU community about the reality of relationship violence, the correlation between alcohol and sexual assault, and the importance of safe dating.
D*SIRE works to create procedures around responsive crisis intervention, providing victim-centered care and access to resources, while encouraging a campus culture that reflects civility, honor, respect and non-violence.

Dress For Success April 18, 2011

Need to dress for success but living on a college budget?

Dressing for success may seem disheartening for many students with a small budget. With shops such as Banana Republic boasting business jackets on sale for $200, investing money in a well-fitted appropriate business suit may seem intimidating. Shopping on a budget, however, does not have to be a burden, especially when an important internship or career may be on the line. Likewise, spending money does not necessarily mean emptying one’s bank account or forfeiting grocery money for a few months.

Conveniently located just two miles from the Owings Mills campus sit the Goodwill (11411 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, Md.), where most articles of clothing do not exceed $10. While the process of finding something to fit your needs may require 30 minutes or an hour of sifting through used clothing, one can most definitely leave the store with at least one item. Gentlemen should keep in mind that the majority of clothing sold at this location is geared towards the ladies.

Besides looking the part one must have the skills and paperwork to match the visual presentation. Career Services (located down the hill on the first floor of Wooded Way) is open daily for appointments to review interviewing skills, presentation skills, and resume skills.

RENT Review April 17, 2011

525,600 minutes, 525,600 moments so dear, 525,600 minutes. How do you measure, measure a year?

In the spirit of the musical season I went to see RENT with a few friends and I must say, it was pretty awesome!

The popular lyrics from Seasons of Love were written and produced by Johnathon Larson, primary writer of the production RENT. Chris Roberts, director of the production and chair of the film, video, and theatre department at Stevenson University, hopes that this semester’s production of RENT will encourage the audience to become emotionally involved with the characters and their story.

RENT is a representation of the lives of many artists in the late 1980s. the characters do not overcome all of their problems, and some of the relationships do not have a happy ending. The play is about love to me, but there is a very strong undertone of the issue of AIDS, which is still a major problem in the world, even though most people don’t think about it much anymore.

The cast includes a diverse group of students, alumni, and outside actors and actresses (below is a full list of the cast). They rehearsed for 3 to 4 hours per day, four days a week. The set incorporates graffiti and multiple levels of metal scaffolding, components from the original Broadway production and was designed by Chris Crostic and Wally Coberg.
