Stevenson University has recently launched a brand new Virtual Tour Experience with photos, videos, and interactive maps, viewers get a first-hand look at every aspect of the Stevenson experience.

The tour allows prospective students to explore the University from the convenience of their own computer and is available directly from the homepage. Viewers are able to navigate through various dimensions of the college experience and read interesting facts about the University. If students want to learn more, they are able to schedule a visit easily while navigating through the tour. According to Brandon Seidl, Assistant Director for Web Management, the project took about four months to complete and about 30 individuals were interviewed on camera. “It really gives prospects a sense of what is happening at SU, and how much we have grown over the past half-decade,” said Seidl.

The tour uses five easy dimensions that show each part of college life. The first stop on the tour gives the viewer a look at the challenging academics Stevenson has to offer. Listen to faculty and students talk about the different courses that Stevenson has to offer and the dynamic learning experience each student receives. Also, take a look at how Stevenson faculty partners with the students to develop new research ideas that can allow them to use knowledge learned in the classroom in a hands-on way.

The next stop on the tour takes viewers on campus to show student life and all the exciting activities students can take part in. From the enriching location of both campuses, to the endless amounts of clubs and organizations students get involved in, to the appetizing dining halls each campus has to offer, this tour shows it all. Viewers will also take a look at the vigorous athletics life Stevenson hosts and listen to student athletes share their experiences.

While on the Learning Beyond tour, viewers can see how students have taken knowledge obtained from the classroom and used it in real world applications. See the different places that students have completed service learning projects and study abroad opportunities. Also, hear students and faculty describe the various internships that prepare students for the career world.

The tour will then shows prospective students how the academic curriculum of Stevenson will prepare them for the real world. The video highlights how students will have a competitive edge in the job market with the various internships and experiential learning opportunities Stevenson offers. The Career Services office is highlighted to show the viewer how Stevenson will help prepare students and place them in internships and careers that best fit them.

Finally, take a virtual tour of both the Greenspring and Owings Mills campuses. This part of the tour allows prospective students to navigate their way around the campuses and learn about each building.

Stevenson University is continuing to grow annually with the development of new academic buildings and facilities, a larger and more diverse student body, new and improved classes and even new majors. Starting next fall, Stevenson will be offering a Fashion Design major to its students.

Just as Stevenson is rapidly growing and changing, the design field is continuously moving as well. To stay afloat on such a popular and demanding field requires individuals to hold a solid foundation of both relevant garment and accessory design and production practice. The Fashion Design major is designed to prepare its students to develop this knowledge.

The curriculum is intended to entice its students through offering a profound understanding of apparel design that will survive in the retail marketplace. The degree will encourage students to incorporate his or her own individual aesthetics of design with an overall understanding of the design market, design history, psychology of design, necessary materials and techniques and relationships to the human form.

Fashion Design will be a new major added to Stevenson’s School of Design, and includes inspiration from current and successful Visual Communication Design, Film/Video/Theater and Business Communication majors already within the school, in addition to Business Administration from the School of Business.

Upon completion of the Fashion Design program, students will be able to apply the skills learned to become practicing Fashion Design professionals and to be competitive in a demanding market.

For more information on the Fashion Design Program please visit http://www.stevenson.edu/academics/fashion-design/default.asp

Be on the look out!

Maumi Cannell-Chatterton will be sending out several emails throughout the summer to get you prepped and ready to go for this coming school year.

I’m sure you’re all wondering… How do I pick my roommate? How do I know what building I’m in? Along with so many other questions that you want answered. Here are a few answers that will be able to hold you off until those emails rush in:

Hold off on the roommates until after Mustang Days in June. After Orientation we will kick off the process. You will do your Personal Characteristics on WebXpress and then you and your roommates (we need to hear from EVERYONE) will email ResLife (we’ll get that email up & running again).

You will be assigned FIRST to the Freshman Billing Room (building 500 – room 500) so that Housing costs show up on your bill because that is important for Financial Aid, etc. But we actually place you in your room with your roommates in late July & early August. But you will be living in the two BRAND NEW residential suites currently going through last minute construction and inspections.

It is important to remember that you also have to make sure you get in your Health Form and get the meningitis vaccine – you don’t get to move in without them! Hope this helps resolve some of those lingering questions.

Also be sure to join the Stevenson University Class of 2015 Facebook page to meet and chat with fellow 2015 Mustangs and/or follow Stevenson on Twitter @StevensonU for campus updates.

We can’t wait to see all of you new Mustangs in August!!

As I pack up my totes and clean up my suite I’m reminded not only that school’s out for the summer, but that when I return in the fall I will be entering into my senior year as an Elementary Education Major here at Stevenson University. I’m not sure where the time has flown to, but it’s gone so quickly that all it has left in its place is memories, great friends, and a career.

Kimberly Dozier, former CBS News reporter and now Associated Press (AP) journalist, has been selected to give the keynote address to the 2011 graduating class at Stevenson University. Dozier, who was wounded in a car bomb attack while reporting in Iraq in 2006, will speak at Stevenson’s commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 13, 2011.

“Kimberly Dozier first spoke on our campus to incoming freshman and their families in August 2008,” said Stevenson President Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D. “She shared her story of tenacity, courage, survival, and overcoming the odds. Her insight and perspectives will certainly inspire our seniors as they begin to their personal and professional journeys after college.”

Dozier joined the AP as a correspondent covering intelligence and counterterrorism in spring 2010, and her work takes her to the heart of the war on violent extremism in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Previously, she was a CBS News correspondent, covering the White House and the Pentagon for CBS News’ Washington bureau from 2007 to 2010. She worked primarily in Iraq from 2003 to 2006, spending most of her time in Baghdad from her home bureau in Jerusalem. In her 14-year career as a foreign correspondent, she covered the Middle East extensively for the CBS Evening News, CBS Sunday Morning, The Early Show, and CBS Radio News, as well as the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, Monitor Radio, the Voice of America, and the BBC World Service.

She published the memoir, Breathing the Fire: Fighting to Report and Survive the War in Iraq, in 2008, detailing her full recovery from the car bomb that hit her team while covering a 4th ID patrol in Baghdad in May 2006. That bombing killed the U.S. Army officer her team was filming—Captain James Alex Funkhouser, along with his Iraqi translator “Sam,” and Dozier’s colleagues CBS cameraman Paul Douglas and soundman James Brolan. The book will be published as a paperback in spring of 2011, with author’s proceeds going to wounded warrior charities.

Her assignments for television and radio have spanned several continents–from Iraq under Saddam to the invasion of Afghanistan and the hunt for Osama bin Laden at Tora Bora, to the Kosovo refugee exodus, to Vladimir Putin’s election, to the downing of the US spy plane in China and the violence of Northern Ireland’s not-so-peaceful peace process.
Dozier is a graduate of St. Timothy’s School in Stevenson, Maryland, and received her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and Master’s in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. She has received multiple awards including a 2009 Sigma Delta Chi, a 2008 Peabody Award, and two Edward R. Murrow Awards. She was the first woman journalist recognized for her reporting with a Tex McCreary Award from the National Medal of Honor Society.
