Peanut Butter Jelly Time! November 9, 2011

SU must be catchin’ the Peanut Butter Jelly Time bug – because tonight, NRHH and Sodexo partnered up to host another PB&J making event where the sandwiches were donated to My Daily Bread in Baltimore.  The event was hosted in Rockland between 6 and 8 p.m.  It was awesome because all of the hungry college students who were ready to chow down also got their hands sticky by making sandwiches for the homeless!

I would say the event was a huge success and the members of NRHH and Sodexo are excited to give back to the community.

Friday Night Affair November 5, 2011

How did you spend your friday night?

I spent mine partying with Tag Soundz at the Friday Night Affair

Where, you ask, was I for this spectacular event?  I was at SU in the Rockland Banquet Room.  From 8 to 12, students were invited to the affair for $3 with ID.  And talk about dress to impress – there were some sharp lookin’ people at this event.  And who wouldn’t want to look fly – Tag Soundz was there providing some of the freshest music that’s blowin’ up the music scene right now.  The International Student Association held the event alcohol free – which is perfect for me!  Recently, Stevenson has been promoting club endorsed parties on campus to deter students from drinking on/off campus.  I think it is a wonderful initiative for the entire community.  Lastly, Stevenson has been charitable lately as well.  Half of the proceeds from the event were donated to SOS India. :) Yay for charity and giving back!  The $3 was totally worth it for all the dancin’ I got out of it – it was like a nightclub up in the Rockland Banquet Hall!

National Sandwich Day: Feeding the Hungry November 3, 2011

Did you know today is National Sandwich Day?

Did you celebrate?  The first floor of Western Run did!  Check us out!

See those happy, smiling faces?  Those are the people, alongside myself, that spent last night making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless.  Why, you ask?  Because I believe EVERYONE should have the opportunity to celebrate national sandwich day!  Plus, it was a great way to bring members of my community together to give back to the greater owings mills/baltimore area community.  The sandwiches were individually wrapped with stickers on them saying “Happy Sandich Day! <3 Stevenson University ResLife.”  Check out my residents doin’ work!

I believe in making the residence hall a place of living and learning.  Look out for my residents and their Get Up and Give Back Campaign to collect donations for an inner city homeless shelter for the holiday season.

Raven’s Trick or Treat! October 31, 2011

What did you do to celebrate Halloween?

I went trick or treating, of course!

But the right way you know – with my family at SU!

Earlier today, I took my boyfriend to Rockland to go trick or treating with families in the owings mills community.  Thrown by the Community Engagement Committee, the event was held from 12:30 to 2:30 and was a spooky (not really, but fun) good time!  There were candy apples, tons and tons of candy, a costume contest, and the cutest children dressed up in their costumes.  Watching families paint pumpkins was really neat and I was happy to be there.

Oh but wait, the best part? They played the Raven’s game.  Yeah – free candy and the Raven’s game – score!

So to you and yours, Happy Halloween!

Tonight I went to a naturally beautiful event sponsored by the upper apartments aka Residence Life.  Besides wanting to go to support my coworkers and friends, I went because it is no secret that I love fall and I find it beautiful.  And lately, I have been so stressed (and sick) that I needed time to unwind and relax.  So, I took a couple of my residents with me and we walked around campus taking pictures of the crisp fall leaves and the sunset.  We were given disposable cameras so I don’t have my pictures, but I’ll be sure to share them when I do!  Although it was a bit brisk out, it was totally worth it.  I love being outside and enjoying what mother nature has blessed us with.  Have you taken the time to soak in the time of year?  If you haven’t, do what I did!  Take some pictures with friends and enjoy some yummy cider and pumpkin spice muffins.  Yes, they were amazingly delicious.

How are you celebrating Halloween?

SU is celebrating and scaring students in a unique way now a days!  Yesterday, shuttles took students to the Pennhurst Asylum.  One of America’s scariest, and real, haunted attractions.  And for only 5 bucks, students could go and celebrate the season to be scared.  Pennhurt was a state hospital that closed in 1986 due to horrific events of mistreatment to the patients at the hospital.  Can I just tell you how absolutely terrifying this attraction is?  Not only does the history behing the Pennshurst Asylum scare me, but the fake-attractions scare me as well.  Even though I know these people are fake and acting, it is still so scary.  I don’t think I have screamed louder in my life than when I went to the Pennshurst Asylum.

Missed out on this trip?  Catch the next shuttle to NYC in December!

It is here and it is simply AWESOME.

Not only is it awesome – but it is personalized.  When going to the SU Portal, you log in and it has everything of yours right infront of your face!  From events and meetings on your calendar to up-to-date emails.  You can even check the weather, get some cool coupons, and listen to Wild Stang Radio.  Like I said, it is AWESOME.  I am excited to see more events appear on the portal and information for the SU community.  I am also really liking the SU Now Portal because it has all the social media links right in front of your face so you can stay connected.  What can I say? I’m in love!

Dress for success.
First impressions are crucial!  Leave the backpacks, sneakers and jeans at home.  Dress as you would for a job interview.  We recommend something conservative such as dark slacks (or a skirt) with a crisp, button down shirt.  Men should wear white shirts and ties (yellow, red or blue preferred).  Remember to iron your Career Fair outfit the night before.

What is the Internship & Career Fair?
The Internship & Career Fair is a great way to learn more about potential internship and career opportunities while networking
with employers from virtually every field.  See below for more details and a list of registered organizations.

Interested in perfecting your interview skills?
Don’t forget to sign up for a Mock Interview prior to the Internship & Career Fair.  Space is limited, so reserve your time slot by logging into Mustang Central, clicking on On Campus Recruiting and selecting a Mock Interview employer (Target, Northwestern Mutual & Paypal).  Mock Interviews are open to all students from all majors.
