KDP Book Fair! December 2, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentDo you remember going to the book fair as a kid and wanting to buy everything in sight? They always got me with those funky pencils and pens at the checkout station.
Wouldn’t it be nice to just act like a kid sometimes? Or how about get some educational gifts for the kids in your life? The KDP bookfair was the perfect holiday stop for all things kids on campus!
I must say, as an education Intern, I bought SOOOOOO many books. I think I spent around $80 on just children’s books. There is something quite magical about a good children’s book. I even bought a christmas book for my Dad that I have been looking for all year!
Oh, what’s that? YOU MISSED IT? It’s ok – KDP usually brings this wonderful event back to campus in the spring!
Empty Bowl Project December 1, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentTonight I attended the Empty Bowls Porject event in the Rockland Banquet Room. I myself am a die hard soup fan – but tonight I was able to eat soup, get a super cool bowl, AND help end hunger. Yep – I paid $5 and my money went towards ending local and global hunger.

SU goes PURPLE. November 29, 2011

On of the largest events on campus this semester was the Relay for Life KICK OFF event that was hosted tonight. And when I say large, I mean I think I saw more purple in the banquet room tonight than I did at the Raven’s game weeks ago. Why, you ask? Because today, students were asked to rock out the purple in honor of relay for life and the American Cancer Association.
Speaking of cancer, tonight at the event, while I enjoyed my snacks, I was able to hear from cancer survivors and there loved ones. The stories I heard were heartfelt and very emotional for 90% of those of us in the room. It makes me reflect upon those who I have lost to cancer in my life.
Furthermore, I really enjoyed how little cupcake reminders and balloons were thrown around campus to make students think about there plans for the evening and not to forget to stop by the event!
Thanksgiving in Western Run November 22, 2011

You didn’t think we’d be celebrating the season without the Peanuts gang, did you? My staff LOVES Charlie Brown and all of his friends, so this month, our building then switched over to a Peanuts Gang theme and we kicked off the holiday season with a culturally appealing event for our residents.
With pies, cider, and hand turkeys – what could get better??? I can tell you! Coming together and watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving was the highlight of my night. I have to tell you, sitting on the floor creating my turkey and surrounding myself with residents and friends was the best way to start off my holiday season. I am truley blessed for those who live in this building and what better way to say thanks than to come together and celebrate our differences! Did you know that Thanksgiving can be considered the Original Cultural Roundtable? It is! It is the first celebration of peace and accepting cultural differences – something we have been working on this year in Western Run. So maybe next year get a group together a little early and have a pre-thanksgiving pie feast
ULTIMATE BINGO November 21, 2011

Who loves BINGO? SU does!
Tonight I went with my best friend Nicole to the Phi Beta Lambda Ultimate Bingo. Usually, I wait until the Mission:I’m Home Bingo in the spring to get out all of my bingo energy, but this year I thought about trying my luck early. As usual, I didn’t win a thing, but Bingo is SO much fun that it didn’t even matter.
One lucky guy walked out of the BINGO with a digital camera and two of those NYC trip tickets I have been raving about. Wanna know what else you missed out on? A Buffalo Wild wings basket, a Ravens basket, a Pimlico VIP package for 10, Washington Wizard tickets, over $300 in gift cards and so much more! It’s a shame that I still didn’t pull out a win. Maybe this year I will win some Vera! Stay tuned for some more Bingo during the spring semester.

Do you or someone you know smoke? Have you ever considered quitting? Let the SU Wellness Center help you at the Great American Smokeout!
Unfortunately, I know someone close to me who can’t seem to kick the habit. Well today is the day to encourage yourself or your loved ones to hop on the band wagon and quit for a day. One day! Is that so hard? Commit to quit – for one day – one week – one month – or even for life! Today, smokers were able to go to the Manuszak center around lunch time to find out more information about quitting smoking and the effects of smoking on your health. They will also be given a X-pack and goodies to help quit for the day! SO let’s go!
Stevenson University Expands! November 15, 2011

Have you ever noticed that architecturally interesting building on the way to the Greenspring campus? Well, you will now! Because it used to be Shire Pharmaceuticals until Stevenson University purchased it this past week to house the School of Science and School of Design. Many students are excited about the new campus that adds 28 acres to our University. The new location is an extension of the current Owings Mills campus and will now allow students to keep the gymnasium on the Greenspring campus.
I haven’t heard anything about when this new locale will be opening up for students use, but I will keep my readers updated! Oh, want more? Click the link below to read the article published by the Baltimore Sun!
Become a Resident Assistant November 13, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a comment
I have spent the past 2 and a half years dedicating my life to Residence Life and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Being a resident assistant has given me opportunities for growth, exploration, and involvement within the Stevenson community. I have met some incredible people along the way – some coworkers, some residents – whom of which will be life long friends, some will even be in my wedding. But no matter what, I will never forget the experience of being an RA (and a fabulous SRA) in Western Run where I have watched the community grow.
So, do you have it in you? Are you ready to experience challenges and live life as it comes? Are you creative? A leader? An advocate? Here’s what you can do NOW. First, TALK TO YOUR RA. Start thinking about recommendations and why you want to be an RA. Then follow through with these next few steps. Good luck, and I will be seeing you.

Dining Services November 11, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentHungry? Head on over to Rockland with a group of friends and enjoy yourself!
When I became a student over three years ago, the food was subpar at Rockland. The atmosphere was dull and it wasn’t really a place where students went to hang out and have good food. However, I have had the pleasure of watching our dining services grow along with the university. They now serve great food (don’t worry tater tot lovers, our tots are still awesome) and have provided students with a fun, community building atmosphere. One of my favorite new additions is the big screen tv’s in the main seating area. Even better though, I have to say, is listening to the Wild Stang Radio while eating! YES – you can sit and eat and listen to our radio station that has up to date information on everything SU!
Cool, huh? Even cooler – SU Dining has several ways of keeping in touch and reaching out to students. Check out the “links” below to stay connected to dining!
