Need a break? Have nothing to do? Want to meet new people in your community?  Come out and play!  Each event offers residents something unique and different that makes the experience of living on campus fun and exciting.  In October, we held 27 programs.  We have done everything from carving pumpkins for halloween, to having a holocaust survivor speak, to pizza and games, to PINK EVENT that supports national breast cancer awareness month.  We do it all, every month.  Keep updated for some fresh programs coming your way in November!  And from our Residence Life family to yours, Happy Halloween. <img src='http://marinawarrenfeltz.sustudents.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </span></p>

<span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium">Here&#8217;s what our SU Homepage has to say about the exciting news!</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium"><strong>Stevenson University</strong> has been recognized as one of America’s <strong>“Up-and-Comers”</strong>—one of only 46 colleges and universities nationwide given this designation—in <em><strong><a href="http://www.usnews.com/education">U.S. News &amp; World Report’s</a> </strong></em>newly released 2012 <strong>“</strong>America’s Best Colleges” rankings. Most significantly, Stevenson was ranked No. 2 among the “Up-and-Coming” Regional Universities-North, a new classification for the University this year.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium">“Stevenson has seen tremendous growth over the last decade, adding more students, facilities, and programs as well as renewing our focus on career development for our students,” says <strong>Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D.</strong>, President of Stevenson University. “The ‘Up-and-Coming’ designation really reflects the hard work of our faculty and staff, and also speaks to the growing reputation of Stevenson among our peer institutions.”</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium">This is the third time that Stevenson has been recognized as an “Up-and-Coming School” by <em>U.S. News</em>. The category recognizes institutions that, according to <em>U.S. News</em>, “recently made promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus, or facilities.” During the past decade, Stevenson has significantly increased enrollment while developing a second campus in Owings Mills. The University just opened a new 3,500-seat stadium on its Owings Mills campus for the inaugural season of its new football program as well as its men’s and women’s soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey programs, and more than 2,000 students—the largest resident population in the school’s history—now live on the campus.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium">Stevenson also moved this year from the <em>U. S. News</em> ranking category of Baccalaureate Colleges-North Region to Regional Universities-North based on the recently revised Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the leading framework for recognizing and describing institutional diversity in U.S. higher education. The category recognizes institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s programs. Stevenson is ranked No. 79 among the top 183 Regional Universities-North.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #0000ff;font-size: medium">Stevenson University, known for its distinctive career focus, is the third-largest independent undergraduate university in Maryland with more than 3,900 students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and adult accelerated degrees at locations in Stevenson and Owings Mills.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Waking up this morning was unsettling to those of us who were previously excited for this monster.  Many services around campus such as the library and Pandini&#8217;s are now shut down for the weekend.  And if you can recall, I was supposed to be at a conference this weekend for Reslife called No Frills.  But because of the snow we pulled out to ensure the safety of all of us going on the trip.</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Regardless, though, today was our very first day being snowed in at SU.  So what do you do when you are snowed in at college and 20+ inches are headed your way?  You prepare, and you play.</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">To begin the day, Tylor and I went to Giant to get some goodies to last us for the weekend.  Apparently we weren&#8217;t the only ones who got the memo because the grocery store was packed!  We ended up getting everything we could to last us for the snow.  Check out our freezer!</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><a href="http://i50.tinypic.com/5nkfhc.jpg"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/5nkfhc.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" /></span></span></span></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">It is jammed packed!  But hey, what else are we supposed to do for food?  Plus, we are college students!</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">After food shopping we came back, relaxed, watched a movie until all of that got boring.  The snow started to pick-up by midday and we didn&#8217;t even go to Rockland for dinner.  Instead, the brave Dominoe&#8217;s delivery guys brought us our dinner!  But waiting for the food I did my February door decs, which are totally cute!!  If you want to read the blog about me beginning my February bulletin board, click here: </span></span></span><a id="Click Here" title="Marina working hard!" href="http://wildstang.stevensonuniversity.org/" target="Click Here!"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">http://wildstang.stevensonuniversity.org/</span></span></span></a><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">.  But for now, here is the stack of door decs I completed&#8230; that took me over two hours!  </span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/2qk6trm.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" /></span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Yeah, I work hard, even on snow days!  But enough was enough and I decided that we needed to do something a little more fun.  So Tylor and I sat down and played Electronic LIFE.  Much more complicated than regular LIFE, by far.  For two hours we played and then slowly more and more people joined until we had 8 people in my room laughing and talking and of course, playing the game of life.  For those of you who are interested in owning LIFE, here is what it looks like!</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/35co3sx.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" /></span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">It was so much fun playing with everyone!  We were one person away from breaking fire code&#8230; woops!  But the night wasn&#8217;t over.  We moved into Chelsea&#8217;s, my suitmate&#8217;s, room to play the Wii!  This is the best game system in the world to have on a snowed in eve.  So as a group we piled into her room and played the Wii Fit.  Our fave game?  The Hoola hoop.  It is awesome!  Here is a pic of our friend playing the hoola hoop game!</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/2rw43va.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" /></span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">After another hour of laughing and playing, I was all gamed out and ready for bed.  But not before checking out just how much snow we had accumulated in the 12 hours that it had been snowing.  Here is a picture I took just before bed of students walking through the snow.</span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><img src="http://i45.tinypic.com/20iz8qx.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" /></span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #333399"><span style="font-size: small"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Maybe tomorrow after it&#8217;s done blizzarding I&#8217;ll get to go out and play in the snow!!</span></span></span></p>
