Stevenson On The News!!!! May 13, 2009

That’s right!  You heard me – Stevenson”s very own Art Taguding was on WJZ13 yesterday morning.  I know most people found out by the email that was sent to them, however – I woke up and made my usual cup of coffee and sat down to watch Saved By The Bell with my little brother before he had to go to school.  I started flipping through some channels and there he was, ART!!  He was talking about the current job market and how he feels Stevenson students are prepared even in these bad economoic times.  I couldn’t do anything but watch with my mouth, wide open!!  Needless to say, it was an awesome experience for SU and Art ;)

It was also pretty cool for me.  I met Mr. Taguding the first day I moved into Stevenson, his daughter Lauren was my suitemate.  He’d come in and hang out with her and help her with things and he was ALWAYS very friendly.  And of course, he always stopped me to ask how I was doing.  He’s one of those genuine people, he takes his job to heart.  So if you ever need anything from Career HQ – I recommend Art Taguding :o )

Book Buyback Blues? May 7, 2009

Posted by Marina in : General , add a comment

So you finished your exams and your last stop for the summer is the bookstore, to sell back the books you paid so much for.  You stand in line at the back of the door and wait patiently.  Then, suddenly, it’s your turn.  You carry your books a little higher to sit them on the counter and proceed to say “I accept cash.”  The clerk scans in all your books and says, “I’m sorry, we aren’t accepting any of these back.”

This is the second semester that this has happened to me.  And I’m sure I’m not the only one with lost hopes.  So for those of you frustrated and in the same position I am in, and for those of you entering next year that may face this problem – I have an explanation from the bookstore manager herself.

According to her, when the bookstore has bought back its limit, they no longer accept the books.  Which is understandable.  However, the bookstore works with a company that buys back books for University’s across the United States.  Meaning, any books used specially for Stevenson you can forget about trying to sell it!  BUT – there is SOME hope still left.  She also said that if you didn’t have luck with this buyback, starting in about two weeks, the book store will be starting their daily buy backs.  AND – it would be a good idea to call ahead of time to make sure they can purchase back your books.

And of course, you can always save the books til next year to sell them to other students. OR – sell them on eBay, Amazon, Craig’s list, etc..

I hope this information has been helpful!  And I’m sorry if any of you are stuck in this position with me.

Extra CASH? April 28, 2009

It’s that time of year again – the end of the semester is fastly approaching and this 90 degree weather isn’t going anywhere soon.  Although their are tons of events about to come up (like the end of the year bash), these events do not just hand out cash!  However – for those of you who need a new bikini or an oil change, your opporutnity is coming!  The Stevenson University bookstore will be buying back your used books on the following dates:

May 6th – May 7th = 9am to 7pm

May 8th = 9am to 4pm

May 9th = 9am to Noon

The bookstore will hand you cold hard cash for your used books!  Pretty cool, huh?  However – there are alternatives to selling books back to the bookstore.  In need of more cash?  Post a sign letting students know what books you are selling on a bulletin board around campus – and see if you can hook someone! This stimulates the underground student economy!  I know, it’s awesome. :o )

So like I said – need that extra cash to get your summer days goin’?  Sell your old books!  Seriously – who needs books?

A Little Bit About My Week April 23, 2009

First off – it’s been CRAZY!  I know a lot of us around here have been feeling the pressures of the year coming to an end.  With big projects and papers due, I can’t seem to find the time to get everything done.  But at the ened of the day, life isn’t about work work work – you gotta have some fun!  So besides being a STAR and working, I’ve done some pretty cool things this week.

Tuesday night was Open Mic Night at Pandini’s.  It turned into a “one man show” but the kid was great!  Of course, I never caught his name – I was busy stuffing my face with a calzone.. mmm.  They sang many great favorites – it’s always great when acoustic music is involved.

And then there was yesterday.  My friend Amanda and I went to Rockalnd for lunch and in the spirit of Earth Day, Kellogg’s was here at Stevenson giving away free samples of some of their very healthy and vegetarian like cuisines.  To be completely honest, it smelled horrid!  I never got the guts to try it, but they had other Kashi products present, which are ALWAYS delicious!  (Expensive, but delicious!).

And then last night, it became very real that we leave… SOON.  I move out, 5:30 on Tuesday, May 4.  Woop Woop!  I am stoked to start my new summer job, but I will miss you SU!

IT’S BACK! April 2, 2009

Sand Volleyball?!?!?! HECK YES!!

Wouldn’t you love to get back from a stressful days of classes and be able to kick of your shoes and play in the sand?  WELL NOW YOU CAN!  Tuesday, the workers here at SU uncovered the sand volleyball court and within HOURS there were guys and girl on the court rippin’ it up.  As you pass by, you almost always trip over flip flops and shirts and anythingn else they can leave on the side lines.

SO – had a bad day? It’s warm outside?  Well get out there!  There’s always someone there to play a game or two with you ;)

Would You Like Some… March 26, 2009

Chai? How about a delicious Smoothie? Or wait no – you’re a Mocha Blast kind of person?  MMM, but don’t rule out the Coffee!

(or the Hot Chocolate).

If you’re in the mood for any of the items mentioned above – Head over to Jazzman’s!  I know you’re probably wondering why I am writing this, but yesterday I had a new experience – I tried the hot chai.  AND WOW WAS IT GOOD!  It’s my new favorite :o ).  I think it’s good to experiment with different types of drinks.  Tea is better for you than coffee and hotter than a smoothie… just less fruity.  It’s a fabulous drink and I recommend it to ANYONE.  It’s awesome how people can go in and get these drinks from their meal plan!  I know I know, amazing.  They also have various food items for purchase (with flex dollars) just in case you can’t get to the store! :o )  A+ Jazzman’s!

(ALSO, DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE MR. AND MS. SU CONTEST TOMORROW NIGHT! YOU COULD WALK AWAY WITH A LAPTOP!!!!)

The NEIGH-borhood!! March 24, 2009

WELCOME TO THE NEIGH-BORHOOD!

A place for incoming accepted students to connect with one another.

I think this is one of the coolest things SU has ever done concerning the internet (beside’s my FABULOUS blog)!  These accepted students have access to one another through means of having a personal profile where they can add information and even photos.  It’s like SU’s personal Myspace Community (only better).  So for all of you who were invited, let me know how it is!  Why couldn’t they have cool stuff like this when I was accepted?

SU JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!

Meet Spot :o) March 23, 2009

This is my new fish, Spot :o )

Spot is the result of two spastic teenagers walking into a pet store.  You see, I really wanted a robohamster.  They are amazingly cute and fluffy but against dorm policies.  So Spot was the perfect addition to this big ol’ room to myself.  You ask, why is his name Spot?  Well although you can’t see it, he has a black spot on his right fin :o )  I love him.  Everyone thinks he is the most adorable goldfish ever.  However, he isn’t one of those 25 cent goldfishes, he’s a special breed.  Yeah, awesome, I know.

In his .5 gallon glass bowl, he has greenish blue marbled rocks and has a little house built like a mushy sand castle with flip-flop decor’.  It’s kind of sad that I spoil a fish – I refused to buy him pellets because he is so small, so I bought him GOURMET food flakes.  :o )  Yes, I’m serious.  But I felt like it was important to give him the best because I did take him out of his home, which makes me sad.

If you plan on buying your own fish for your dorm, remember that you cannot have a tank exceeding 10 gallons.  Also, make sure to properly take care of your fish.  Water conditioner is necessary to keep your new friend alive, and of course food!  A loving nurturing home doesn’t hurt either.  Buying little things to put in the bowl helps the fish have a little excitement.  So go on and get your own!
