Checking Out?!? April 28, 2011
Posted by Marina in : General, Spring 2011 , add a commentWe’re down to the last week of the 2010-2011 academic year! Good luck on your final exams this week! Please remember that you have 24 hours after your last exam or by Friday, May 6th @ 6pm to check-out. For example, if your last exam is Tuesday, May 3 @ 4pm – you have until Wednesday, May 4th @ 4pm to check-out.
As you are packing your belongings, please keep the following closing procedures in mind. Each suite received a “cleaning agreement form”. This form is used for your benefit to ensure each person takes part in cleaning the suite. Is it important that all suitemates sign the form and divide the cleaning responsibilities among each other. Leave this form on the counter in the bathroom so the Residence Life staff knows which suitemate was responsible for each item on the list.

You have two options for checking-out of your suite:
Express Check Out – This is the quickest and easiest check-out option. If you decide to use Express Check-Out, you are not required to schedule an appointment with an RA. The Express option requires that you pick up the Express Envelope, complete the information on the front, and return the envelope with your room key, mail key, and parking permit. Please return the envelope to the Residence Life Office. Someone from the Residence Life staff will check your room later for damages, that your space was cleaned, and that all your belongings were removed.
Regular Check-Out – This option requires that you schedule an appointment with your RA 24 hours in advance. If you are not present at the time of your appointment or you are not ready to check out, the appointment is considered missed and you will need to complete the Express Check-Out option. During your scheduled appointment, the RA will check the room for damages, make sure you cleaned your space and removed all of your belongings.
Improper Check-Out – (i.e. – you fail to complete the Express Check-out option, make an appointment with an RA, and/or miss a scheduled appointment with an RA) you may subject to a $150 fine. Any check-out after Friday, May 6th @ 6pm will be considered “late” and will result in an improper check-out fine. Starting at 6:30pm on Friday, May 6th, a $25 fine will be added for each increment of 15 minutes until you check-out. All check-outs after Friday, May 6th @ 6pm will be Express Check-outs and the right to appeal damages will be waived.
At this time, the trash rooms have been closed. Please take all your trash to the dumpsters located in the parking lot. Please let an RA know if you have any questions.

By placing your soda tabs into the boxes located around both campuses.

You will be helping to raise money going towards helping sick children and their families going through rough times. All you need to do is keep the tabs off your soda cans and put them in designated boxes. Help make a difference in a child’s life by doing something so simple!

Dress For Success April 18, 2011
Posted by Marina in : General, Spring 2011 , add a commentNeed to dress for success but living on a college budget?

Dressing for success may seem disheartening for many students with a small budget. With shops such as Banana Republic boasting business jackets on sale for $200, investing money in a well-fitted appropriate business suit may seem intimidating. Shopping on a budget, however, does not have to be a burden, especially when an important internship or career may be on the line. Likewise, spending money does not necessarily mean emptying one’s bank account or forfeiting grocery money for a few months.
Conveniently located just two miles from the Owings Mills campus sit the Goodwill (11411 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, Md.), where most articles of clothing do not exceed $10. While the process of finding something to fit your needs may require 30 minutes or an hour of sifting through used clothing, one can most definitely leave the store with at least one item. Gentlemen should keep in mind that the majority of clothing sold at this location is geared towards the ladies.
Besides looking the part one must have the skills and paperwork to match the visual presentation. Career Services (located down the hill on the first floor of Wooded Way) is open daily for appointments to review interviewing skills, presentation skills, and resume skills.

RA Celebration April 10, 2011

To start my week off perfectly was The Residence Life End of the Year Banquet. I got to dress up in a pretty little dress and spend a few hours outside of duty with my fellow Resident Assistants.
We enjoyed delicious Italian food and desserts. As the evening began the SRAs from each of the buildings were able to come up and present superlatives to our staff members – some of my favorites being RA Christen’s which was Most Likely to be A Thug in a Cocktail Dress and RA Jen R’s Most Likely to wear a pair of $300 stilettos to investigate a crime scene to name two. Then our RDs were able to present superlatives to the SRAs, all funny and well deserved.
A great slideshow was put together by my fabulous RD Sondra to show each and every one of the Resident Assistants and Resident Directors.
And my favorite part of the night would have to be when RAs Tiffany and Liz sang a parody of “Fireflies” that perfectly matched this year in review with some of the incidents we’ve all had this year with the residents, not only were the girls great artists they were very comedic in choosing the lyrics for the song.
Congrats to all and thanks for an amazing year!!
SPRING in the Quad April 9, 2011
Posted by Marina in : General, Spring 2011 , add a commentSpring is here, finally!!!
As the temperatures rise, rain pours, and students begin to flood the quads there is more to do on campus then ever before!
Here are some other fun ways to enjoy spring in the quads:
1. Frisbee – there’s plenty of open space to give it a good throw. Remember there’s also Ultimate Frisbee if you really want to get into a competitive game.
2. Hacky sack – an old favorite, practice your skills and impress your friends.
3. Catch some rays – tanning at salons can be super expensive and dangerous to your health, this way you get to tan next to your friends while saving your money.
4. Volleyball - The sand volleyball court has been reopened for the spring and we’ve started a new this year, you and some friends can get a team together to play other teams in a sand volleyball game of two.

5. Music – musician or not the quad is a great place to sit and listen to others play their instrument of choice or just sit and listen to some music with friends on a blanket.
6. Basketball – although the court is not directly located in either of the quads it is only a short walk away and pickup games are always taking place during the nice weather.
7. Drawing/Painting/Photography – the quad is a great place to find subjects for artists’ next focus in their art pieces.
8. Cornhole – a backyard game like the old fashion game of horseshoes cornhole is very popular among the Stevenson University campus.
9. Homework – take a blanket, shades, and that paper you can’t seem to finish because your roommate has the TV on out to the quad and enjoy the nice weather while you get your schoolwork finished.
10. Kickball – gather up that ever so busy group of friends and take a break in the quad to play some good old kickball, you know you loved it in Elementary school you’ll love it even more now!
School Updates March 31, 2011
Posted by Marina in : General, Spring 2011 , add a commentAs the semester begins to come to an end more and more has been updated around campus. From the start and near completion of the two new residence halls to flat screen TVs being wired and placed in the first floor lounges of the suites. The school has also updated some of it’s out-dated furniture and other lounges to increase the interest in utilizing “worn-down and out-dated” hang out spots around campus.
After adding flat screen TVs to the three suites first floor lounges we have also added a flat screen as you enter Caves along with some new age furniture to make it more welcoming and comfortable to relax and do some homework or simply just watch some TV. We have also put up Stevenson decals around campus to show more school spirit and to show off our new logos, look for them in the new gym, Rockland Marketplace, and other popular spots on campus.
And get this.. Stevenson University has hired an interior designer to come in and survey students about what they want to see in the Ratcliffe Community Center and the upstairs waiting/lounge area of Rockland. The TV lounge, pool room, large lounge area, and waiting area of Rockland will be transforming into hip and cool lounge and hang out spots to increase student satisfaction and overall school appearance.

On the Greenspring campus interior designers have helped to update those old and uncomfortable seats and replaced them with an abstract shaped couch for students to relax on as they read a book or do some research.
