NCAAW Part II – The Aftermath October 21, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentSo remember how I told you NCAAW was kind of a big deal to me on campus because I am in love with Alcohol Awareness and Education – well, it’s over. So let me catch you up on all of the awesome things that happened during the week that made it so successful!

First of all, who doesn’t like a good drink? Monday Mocktails was the perfect way to wind down the start of the week without the consupmtion of alcohol. And sometimes, the drinks taste exactly the same anyway – so really, whats the point? PLUS, many of students rocked the trivia game and won some fantastic prizes from the Wellness Center including gift cards, which to college students are like gold. Wednesday night took the educational aspect of NCAAW a little bit further with Altered Activities. Now, from a 21 year old senior in college, I would like to point out that using beer goggles to walk a line is probably one of the hardest things I have had to do here at school. It totally kicked my butt and several others. Just for the record, who would ever want to get that drunk? From the looks of it, through the goggles of course, I’m sure they weren’t feeling well, either. But nevertheless, the event had a great turn out and was a lot of fun!
Now, to my favorite part… The Sober Party. As we all know, this is my baby. I am so proud of what the Sober Party has become on campus and what it means to Residence Life Staff that participated throughout the years in the execution of the event. Our first year out, we had over 200 residents attend the Sober Party. This year I would say our turn out was equal if not slightly better. We had awesome t-shirts (that I designed and LOVE) that were given out to students who won rounds of water pong. We had dancing, a live DJ that lit up the quad that night, free pizza and snacks, heavenly mocktails, a free movie, and fun – wholesome fun. That was the purpose of the Sober Party – to teach students that you can have fun without alcohol. And from the looks of it, we were truly successful with our efforts. It is my hopes that the Western Run Staff continue the Sober Party tradition once I am gone because I think it is now something that is valued amongst individuals on this campus. Especially those who don’t drink and still want to get their party on! I will update this blog with pictures from the event in the near future.
Did You Vote? October 20, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentYou may ask, vote for what?
WORLD’S BEST RA – of course!
Fortunate for me, I took a ton of residents with me to the Career Carnivalto not only vote for world’s best RA, but to also have fun! Did you know that the Career Carnival offered students more than just career stuff? It was actually a ton of fun! My residents and I went for about two hours and played carnival games in the Rockland banquet room. It was very surreal. I really thought I was at a carnival! There was music, food, a fortune teller, games, spin art, a photo booth, and pretty sweet prizes. I’m still waiting on the results for the world’s best RA, but I’m not worried

Get Ready for NCAAW! October 1, 2011

Did you know what NCAAW stands for?
You are in luck because I sure do! NCAAW stands for National Collegiate Alcohol Education Week. Colleges and Universities across the US will be taking the week of October 16 – 22 to educate their students on the dangers, effects, and safety hazards that come with drinking. Many universities focus on underage drinking as well as college age drinking. The image above represents a Did You Know? A campus wide initiative started last year in the Residence Halls to aware students of the dangers of drinking. Most students do not know the above information so it is our job as educators and peers to help students know how they are potentially harming themselves and those around them. At Stevenson, we will be having different NCAAW activities daily. The biggest of them all will be the Sober Party – introduced in 2009 by the Western Run Residence Life Staff. I was the original idea maker for this event and it is my pride and joy every year as an SRA. Look out for more details coming your way soon!
