For several students on campus, this is the first day of college classes. And for many of us, it is our last first day of classes. To both parties, freshman and seniors, I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on your first day of school.
Survival during Hurricane Irene August 29, 2011
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2011 , add a commentRight after the shocking 5.8 magnitude Earthquake that struck the East Coast, Hurricane Irene made an appearance that those who lived in the residents halls here at Stevenson will never forget.
In an effort to keep all students, faculty, and staff safe during the storm, Residence Life made the call to move resident check-ins from Sunday to Monday. Furthermore, all Residence Life staff was asked to stay for the weekend to protect the residents in case of power outages. We were equipped with walkie talkies and gigantic flashlights. Personally, I was terrified! But I ended up spending the evening getting to know my freshman residents. Hearing the wind howl for countless hours made me wonder if the power was about to go out or not – but luckily, we never lost power here at the University. However, most of Baltimore County had lost power. Meaning that the first day of school (and now the second) was cancelled for schools in our area. Not to mention, school was also cancelled here at Stevenson University for the day! It was just more time for me to settle in to school and get to know my residents. I am so thankful that we suffered no damage from Hurricane Irene.

Oh, you’re a student? Don’t worry, I am too! We can go to the Student Activities office on the Monday before the game, starting at 9 a.m. and get our tickets for FREE with a student I.D. 1000 student tickets will be given out and will go FAST. So don’t wait til Thursday to show up to get yours!
Kick-Off Carnival! August 28, 2011

The Kick-Off Carnival for the freshman class out-did itself this year. In other words – it was AWESOME! On Friday night, I walked outside the door of Western Run and the quad had been transformed into a funfest, if you will. But the apartment quad was surely the place to be for the night. With snowcones, cotton candy, inflatable courses, a rock climbing wall, a foam party (as shown above), great tunes, and much more, Stevenson students were pumped about beginning their journey at Stevenson while making new friends. I met so many new people while being there. I def think we need more events like this on campus in the near future for all students!
