Construction – Stadium February 20, 2011

Construction is EVERYWHERE here at SU. However, this construction taking place beside our brand new Gym is special. Not only is the new stadium going to turn our sporting events into campus wide hoorahs, it is going to be opened with our brand new football team. Everytime I look down at the construction I am reminded of how much Stevenson is actually growing as a University. The new stadium, however, is going to be SWEET. I will take a front-side picture this week during the first lacrosse game of the season! Get ready Stevenson, our sporting events are about to be legit.

Here is a picture of our campus beautifully lit up with the warm sunshine. Enjoy it while it lasts! There is supposed to be a snow storm this week! BRRRRRR!
Food Perks February 20, 2011

Within walking distance of campus, or what we say around here as “down the hill,” Stevenson University students have a large amount of food perks that we can access with our flex on our SU one cards. My personal favorite? Dunkin Donuts. Not only is there iced coffee and hot chocolate both amazing, I can get hot beverages in the cold weather and also get my baskin robbins ice cream fix when it is warm outside! Yes. It is pretty awesome. Not to mention the people who work at DD are incredibly nice. Buddy up to them and you could see a couple extra donuts in that bag! Another food perk we have right now is just a couple hundred feet west. Subway has had booming business this month because of all their footlongs being $5. EVERY TIME I walk down their with my best friend Nicole, there are SU students eating! It is incredible. I think the flex system here at Stevenson has incresingly gotten better since I was a freshman here and boy am I thankful! So, hungry? It’s ok. Flex has got you covered.

In case you were wondering how our new residence halls were coming along, here is an updated picture of the progress that has been made! As you can see, the wooden frame of the building is about to be complete and man is that a big building! Both new buildings will be claimed as first year experience this fall and will contain rooms of the same size. I wish I were a freshman this coming year because I know these buildings are going to be top of the line! Check back over the next few months to look at new updates

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I recieved one of the sweetest “gifts” if you will this friday. I know what you are thinking, what could be sweeter than the card from my residents or the box of chocolates from my Valentine? Well let me share this with you my friends. This friday, letters were given to new, returning, and higher positioning applicants for the Resident Assistant and Senior Resident Assistant positions for this coming school year. I am extremely honored and pleased to announce that I will be returning to Western Run to be the Senior RA of a Second year Experience Building, for my third and final year of being an RA here at Stevenson. Although the letter was bittersweet, I am ecstatic. Most of my residents are homesteading for the next year and I excited for Western Run to not be an all freshman building. It will give my staff and I an opportunity to build a different community here in Western Run starting in the Fall. Congratulations to all of my new and returning coworkers. I hope you are all ready for a very exciting, challenging, and fulfilling year.
Good Morning :) February 20, 2011

The Greenspring Campus is my favorite place in the world to get breakfast. Besides their tasty breakfast sandwiches and french toast that students go crazy for, they also have healthier more “on the go” options that are just as delicious. For example, the muffin selection on the other campus is incredible. My personal favorite is the blueberry muffin or the sugar cinnamon muffin. All of our muffins are made fresh and packaged with a coffee, soda, or milk as a meal! Yes, I can get a scumptious muffin and a tall Seattle’s Best coffee (including the CinnaBon flavor!!!) for a MEAL SWIPE. It is incredible and completely worth it. So for all of you who haven’t traveled over to the other campus for breakfast, it is highly recommended by 95% of students here at the University.
Smoking on Campus February 20, 2011

Although smoking is accepted here on campus, all person’s who choose to smoke are now being asked to refrain from smoking within 15 feet of all openings on campus. All person’s who are caught smoking within the 15 feet range will be issued a warning and past a warning, a judicial will be given. So keep our entry ways smoke free and beautiful for all of us!
New and Improved Lounges February 20, 2011

Yes, that is indeed a large t.v. hanging on the wall. Where do you ask? These flat screen, 55 inch, t.v.’s can be found in the lounges of all of the suite residence halls. Students can sit in the lounge and relax on our furniture (which is soon to be brand new and updated as well) and socialize with other residents in the building. It gives our first floor lounge a more “home” feeling instead of it feeling like a lobby of a hotel. Since the t.v.’s have been put up, students are CONSTANTLY in the lounge and it is a relief to see our residents getting out of their rooms to socialize with their fellow mates. Although we were all hesitant at first about the t.v.’s being on the first floor lounge, in the end I believe it was a great idea. Not only have I used the t.v. while watching shows such as Pretty Little Liars with 15 other girls, but EVERYONE can use the t.v.. Happy watching
Valentine’s Day February 20, 2011

This Valentine’s Day for me was spent mostly in class and with the newest love in my life. However, after returning from a long day of class, I opened my door and to my surprise, a white envelope had creeped underneath of my door. I was so excited to see what it was so I tore it open and sat down my stuff. To my surprise, it was a little mermaid Valentine’s day card. I took a good minute to think about who would put a card under my door and then I opened it. With 24 signatures in tact, my residents had become my Valentine’s. It seems like a weird thing to blog about but I feel like when these things happen to me, it reminds me of the community I have built on my floor here at Stevenson. I feel like we are all apart of a great big family and I love it. Not to mention, I love my residents and they deserved a shout out for my amazing v-day card!
Fleece Scarves February 20, 2011

Despite the weather being ABSOLUTELY gorgeous this week, MAP Daytime Activities gave us something fun and very out of the ordinary to do this Tuesday on the Greenspring Campus. A lot of the daytime activities are held here because believe it or not, the majority of our students are on the other campus during the week including commuters! Anyway, MAP had out all kinds of brightly colored and patterned strips of fleece fabric. I learned that by putting two of these strips together and cutting slits to tie, I could make a FABULOUS fleece scarf of my own for the cold, cold weather coming our way this week!
