Functional sculpture by Churchill Davenport

Recently, I have been trying to find out more about these strange birdhouses that are hung in the tress on the Greenspring campus.  Painted in different shades of blue, yellow, and red, these bird houses are attributed to Stevenson’s “Art in the Valley” concept and the theme for this academic year.  Below you will find information on these marvelous, abstract, and innovative homes in our valley.

When: August through May

Where: Stevenson University’s Greenspring Campus

There are 63 at this location; can you find them all?
In grade school Churchill Davenport reinvented the instructions in a birdhouse building manual while working on a school project and the results have become what has been called “baroque conglomerations” that exude “palpable energy.”  Davenport’s lushly painted, joyous quixotic birdhouses will fill the trees surrounding the Greenspring Campus.  An exhibition of photographs, by Cassandra Bates ’12, documenting Davenport’s installation and the seasons will be on view during this school year

The Ravens Watch Party sponsored by the freshman council on Thursday, November 11th  was AMAZING in the Rockland banquet room. Doors opened at 8:00pm while students piled in to watch the game start at 8:20. There were Raven’s themed door prizes, raffles, and a competition for a Ravens gift pack for the biggest Ravens Fan! There was tailgating food and drinks to go along with the festivities and well, of course, the game!

Think Purple! And gold!  The Marketplace was jammed pack before the game with Rockland’s special tailgating menu!  The food included various items such as wings, pizza, hot dogs, and much, much more! So, think you are the ultimate Raven’s fan?  Wait until you see Stevenson’s spirit for the purple and gold.

All students and other SU personnel who are interested in being a part of the first-ever SU Marching Mustangs Band were invited to an informational meeting on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 4:30 in CA 247 on the OM campus.  This means players, dancers, flag line members, twirlers, and support staff.  Bob Suggs, Professor of Music and member of the Search Committee to select the band director, will be there to give an update and to answer any and all questions.  This will be your band and all ideas (feel free to be as creative as possible) will be welcome and communicated to the new director.  From one band geek to another, see you on the field!

The Norman Magic EXPERIENCE November 15, 2010

Growing up, I was never a kid who was interested in magic.  I liked more concrete, non mysertical games.  But tonight, I discovered my love for magic through the Norman Magic experience.  Not only is he such a nice, stand-up guy, but he is extremely talented.  I saw cards do things I didn’t think were possible!!!!  The best part about his experience was the “preview” we all recieved in the marketplace while eating dinner.  He went up to various tables around Rockland and actually did some magic tricks with us!!!!  Talk about an interactive magic experience!  It was so much fun.  I went to his show in the banquet room right after dinner and was blown away by his magical abilities.  I even took a picture of him in Rockland!  Check it out!  Oh and if you missed the show, youtube it.  (You’re gonna wish you were there!)
