Oh yeah SU, we are getting ready to get our hands dirty, too.

In honor of the Third Annual Alternative Spring Break Program at Stevenson, we will be again traveling to New Orleans to clean up after Hurricane Katrina.  Yes, they still need our help and yes, we want to help them.  Stevenson will not give up on New Orleans until the job is done!

Mission: I’m Home is the club on campus that organizes and participates in the Alternaive Spring Break program alongside of their advisor, and my beautiful boss, Morgan Somerville who began the program at Stevenson in 2009.  All students, faculty, and staff are more than welcome to come on the trip to New Orleans with a small fee.  All that are interested should attend an informational meeting before Spring or email a member of Mission:I’m Home.  Applications have been submitted but do not let that stop you! Apply today and dedicate your Spring Break to those who need it most.

Meditation Center: Now Open! November 27, 2010

The Menning Meditation Center is now open on the Greenspring Campus and is open to all students, faculty, and staff members. The opening included light refreshments and I heard nothign but positive feedback!  Inside of this medidation center, there are bibles and spiritual books aligned on shelves and many comfortable, relaxing chairs.  The environment in itself is calming and peaceful.  When I walked by this past Tuesday, there were students inside this center trying to center themselves.  The room is filled with tree’s and even had a calming aroma.  The meditation center is located behind the Cuvilly exchange and is a wonderful place to go if you need time to yourself to wind down and learn how to manage stress.  I encourage anyone and everyone to check it out.

Pie Your RA!!!! November 27, 2010

I must say that Thursday night was a very, very busy night for me and my friends.  One of my best friends was hosting an event with her Susquehanna shark staff entitled “Pie Your RA” at 7:00 p.m. last Thurday night.  Let me just say, I loved watching my best friend getting pied in the face!  But their pie in the face experience wasn’t for nothing.  The committed and dedicated staff raised almost $400 for the Luekemia and Lymphoma society by walking door to door and through Rockland to collect donations.  The floor that raised the most money (and the runner up) got to pie their RA’s in the face!!!  IT WAS AMAZING!  We really need to do something like this with our professors here at Stevenson.

All Around the Wood November 27, 2010

Thursday night, my friends and I walked down the hill from Rockland to Wooded Way to the event “All Around the Wood” brought to residents by the residence life Wooded Way staff!  On the first floor, we were given passports and asked to visit each floor to experience food and facts about the countries they researched.  As we explored our way through the hallways of the wood, we learned a lot about Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica, and more.  I actually learned a lot about these countries and their cuisine that I never knew before.  So not only was their event delicious, it was fun and very informational!

Time for a Feast :) November 27, 2010

Before leaving Stevenson for the much anticipated Thanksgiving break, I was able to enjoy an amazing (and very tasty) Thanksgiving dinner with my Stevenson family in the Rockland Marketplace.  I had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and even some sort of vegan tofu turkey casserole.  Just to try something new, of course.  And for dessert, I had pumpkin cheesecake with whipped cream on top!  The group of friends I went with decided that we couldn’t eat too much because we had the event, All Around the Wood following our dinner together.  Overall, our thanksgiving feast in Rockland made me miss home and let’s just say I am so glad to be back.
