The Patapsco Penguins are working hard to create a sense of community within the resident hall.  How are they accomplishing this?  By hosting events that bring people together and share diversity.  Their highly acclaimed event “Peacing” Together SU focused on bringing all the residents together, piece by piece, to create a safe, peaceful environment.  I love the fact that this “puzzle” of sorts is on display in the lobby of their building.  Not only is it colorful to look at, but it is neat to look at all the different drawings and names on each individual piece.  Wonderful job, Patapsco!

The spirit of Halloween, that is!

Now I know it is still September.  But Stevenson students are gearing up for the spook-tastic Halloween season already!  Friday, SU students had the opportunity to take a trip to Fell’s Point and take a ghost tour for only $5 compliments of Student Activities!!!!  It is true!  And creepy!  Some of my residents decided to take the tour with outher SU students and said “Fell’s Point was so awesome!  I want to go again with a bunch of friends… because I’m pretty sure we saw a ghost!” – Rebecca, Class of 2014.  I wish I would have gone on the trip, but I’m sure Student Activities has more Halloween adventures up their sleeve so be on the lookout!

Are you interested in working with professionals in the sports industry?  Dream of working with sports all of your life?  Well now is your chance!  The Stevenson University Business Administration mjaor has now added a Sports Management track to their curricula.  Interested?  Read the section below taken from the Stevenson University homepage.  Yes, this is legit!

Stevenson University Announces New Sport Management Track in Business Administration

Stevenson University’s Brown School of Business and Leadership is adding a new track to its Business Administration program, Sport Management. The Sport Management track is designed for students who are interested in managing or providing marketing support to professional, intercollegiate, or interscholastic athletic organizations, as well as sport- and fitness-related businesses.

The new Sport Management track will prepare students for successful careers in the management and marketing of athletic programs and teams. The track is also geared for those students who seek to oversee and operate recreational management programs for resorts, municipalities, and park services as well as for those who want to own a sport- or fitness-related business or manage athletic training facilities. In addition to core business administration courses, the track will offer courses in the economics of sports, sports law, sport management, and sports marketing. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to the real world of work through internships. Currently, Stevenson students have options to intern with such professional athletic organizations as the Baltimore Orioles, Aberdeen IronBirds, and Bowie Baysox. as well as with companies such as Brick Bodies/Lynne Brick’s and East Coast Social Sports.

“Our Sport Management program extends beyond students interested in the management of professional or collegiate athletic programs,” said Deborah Leather, Chair of the Department of Business Administration. “The track is also perfect for those who envision careers in K-12 schools, in the growing fitness and exercise industry, or in sport-related businesses such as clothing and other products.”

That was the object of our Twister extravoganza tonight in Western Run!  Residents from across the University came into our first floor lobby to twist… and shout!  Using the Residence Life over-sized Twister board, we held numerous rounds of funny to watch games.  Game nights happen ALL THE TIME in the residents halls.  Even if they aren’t going on, the lounges are great places to gather friends and play games together!

Hispanic Heritage Month September 27, 2010

Did you know that September is National Hispanic Heritage Month?

Lucky for us at Stevenson, we are exposed to various events on campus that enrich our sense of different cultures.  Earlier in the month, Western Run held a Welcome Week fiesta where students came and played hispanic oriented games and ate lots of great food!  Rockland, with their very wide, universal selection, is no different.  They celebrated Hispanic Heritage month by serving authentic hispanic food to hungry students.  I went in to see what all the buzz was about and I was greeted by a Sodexo worker in a sombrero!!  It was very interesting.  As I walked past the different food stations, festive hispanic music filled my ears and foods such as tortas, black beans and rice, and stuffed poblanos filled my stomach!  The night was truly one to remember, and celebrate.
