Take Me Out to the Ballgame! April 30, 2010

Tonight, students went to the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles game to represent Stevenson University in the home crowd, and did they ever! A ton of students from SU went to the game tonight and it was a complete blast! Student activities sold tickets for left field upper reserve at $6 a piece with free transportation compliments of the SU shuttles. What a deal! The Orioles even beat out the Red Sox with a 5 to 4 win! But the season isn’t over yet folks. Enjoyed the game and the fresh peanuts as much as I did? Than head on back throughout the summer to catch even more of the action!
Field Trip Time! April 29, 2010

The best part about being an education major is that we still get to take field trips in college! No, seriously, today I took a field trip to The Baltimore Museum of Art with my Art for Young Children class. Although a Learning Beyond Credit can be taken for the class, this trip was open to everyone in the class. Not to mention, it was a lot of fun and free! Of course, the BMOA is always free now and a great place to go if you have even the slightest artsy side to you. A lot of the paintings and sculptures discussed in our class were present at this museum, bringing the class material to life. But my favorite part of this museum is the first exhibit with the Native American art among other African art. Everything seemed so fake yet real at the same time! It was so cool! And even though many of you can’t go with your classes, you can still go anytime you would like! The BMOA is off of 83 and only 20 minutes from the Owings Mills campus! A must go.
End of the Year Bash! April 28, 2010

Some call it May Day, other call it the End of the Year Bash – but no matter what you decide to call it, you can guarantee you’ll have a ton of fun! This year, the bash was split up between the two campuses to ensure that the fun would last all day long into the night ending with a live band at the Ratcliffe Community Center. But, as I mentioned, during the day, the bash was primarily over on the Greenspring campus where students got lots of free food, prizes, played games, and just enjoyed the beautiful weather. On the Owings Mills campus later in the evening, students enkoyed goodies such as snow cones and cotton candy, the live band, games, trampolines, and much more! Oh yes, this bash was a blast!
A Complete Microwaved Meal April 26, 2010
Posted by Marina in : Spring 2010 , add a commentAs the semester is slowly coming to an end, we are all getting tired of the same chicken patty and frrench fries from Rockland at the end of our day. Thus, I decided tonight that I was going to try something different. I decided I was going to make a complete meal in the microwave that isn’t the simple, same old, boring, spaghetti.
To begin my tasty journey, I thought back to my childhood and all the concoctions I made growing up. I knew that today food packaged to be cooked in the microwave is easier to find and at a wide variety. So I gathered up my car keys, my wallet, and my friend Ashleigh and headed out to Shoppers where I knew they had a ton of microwavable goodies. As I walked in the doors to the grocery store, my idea had come full circle. Growing up, and even now, my favorite food was taco’s. And that, my friends, is what I made tonight. Let me explain the ingredients you need and how you can make your complete microwaved meal!

Microwaved Chicken Taco’s
Ingredients: Tyson’s Fajita Marinated Chicken Strips, Old El Paso Chicken Soft Taco Dinner Kit, Old El Paso Fiesta Rice, Microwavable Steamable Corn, Shredded Cheese and other toppings you desire.
Directions: Cook corn and rice as directed in microwave then place in separate tuperware containers to stay warm. Take your bag(s) of chicken, open, and place the chicken into a glass bowl. Cook the chicken as directed and add 90 seconds. Once the chicken is warm/hot, open the dinner kit and pour the taco seasoning onto the chicken. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cups of water and mix the seasoning in with the chicken. Heat for an additional 2 minutes or more as desired. Sit chicken aside. Take tortillas and heat, two at a time on a microwave safe plate, for 15 seconds with cheese on top. Add chicken, red sauce included in the kit, and other toppings to complete your mexican fiesta!
It is simple, delicious, and cheap! You must try this before leaving for the semester!
The Zoo! April 24, 2010

People who know me best know that my favorite place in the entire world is the Zoo. So in preparation for my annual Baltimore Zoo trip in April, I went to Student Activities this week and bought my tickets for $9.50 – originally $16 for a weekend visit to the Zoo! As soon as they became available, I thought to myself, I must get these tickets before they are gone. And this morning, I took my tickets and went to the Zoo before the last Open House for the year. It was a sunshiney morning and all of the wonderful animals were out playing! Above is a picture of a prarie dog, my favorite animal of all time from the Zoo, alongside of the Elephants, of course. But they are just so cute and ever since I was little, they have always come out to greet me, even if it is for a second or two, I always see them! The thing I like most about the Baltimore Zoo is how relaxing it is. The walk around the Zoo is quiet and shaded, making it more like a park that contains exotic animals. It is never crowded and the food is good too. However, if you wanted to save money, they allow people to take in packed lunches so you don’t have to pay for their food. It is also located right of off 83 and is conviently only 20 or so minutes away. Needless to say, I loved my trip to the Zoo :]
Javier and Barbecue April 22, 2010

Although the picture above doesn’t represent all the great food I ate tonight at the Javier Colon event at Pandini’s, it is certainly a start! And I must say, Javier Colon was so cool! His style was unique and sitting outside during a beautiful evening, listening to his music, and eating good food with my friends is what I consider the perfect ending to a good day. Not to mention that Pandinis now has even more tables outside, and even in the grass, for students to sit, gather, eat, do homework, or just chill out in the warm sun.
Art Outside April 22, 2010

Today was such a beautiful day and I was not the only one who thought so! While walking to my Thursday night class, I approached some art majors who were inspired by the beauty outside during this wonderful day. The girl in the picture was drawing flowers found beside Knott Hall. Her nearly finished picture was intriguing and inspiring. I wish I had the art skills to sit outside and draw on such a nice day!
Take Back the Night April 19, 2010

Tonight in the Ratcliffe Community Center was the first annual Take Back the Night event. The event was geared towards promoting sexual violence awareness and giving those who have experienced these tragedies a voice. The picture taken above is the cake they had in Rockland for the event, encouraging people to go and support those who needed their voice heard. I walked into the community center and was blown away with all the information that was available to us. College students are targeted for sexual violence and at Take Back the Night, we all learned ways to protect ourselves from being a victim. But for those who are victims, a candle lit vigil was held at 7:30 outside in the Apartment Quad. Students told their stories of sexual violence and helped raise awareness. Because we all have the power to stop the violence before it ever starts. Awareness is an essential part of knowledge and understanding. The stories shared tonight were heart wrenching and unforgettable. I wish I had the courage inside myself to get up their and tell my story for the first time. But I am proud of those who did, and I am fully aware of how to protect myself. Thank you Take Back the Night, thank you.
Reservations? April 19, 2010

On these tables are little cards that say “reserved.” Workers from Sodexo were carrying out trays and trays of food to serve the people arriving shortly to sit in their special “reserved” section. Come to find out, a bunch of older guests were joining us here at Stevenson for lunch after taking a tour of the campus. Just goes to show that there is always something going on around here!
