I know I have written a lot about food recently, but hey, there is a lot going on here at SU that deals with food. Speaking of deals, here’s one that will satisfy your spicy taste buds. Starting today, every Wednesday in Rockland will be Wild Wings Wednesday where students can walk away with a dozen fresh buffalo wings for $8 and 2 dozen for $15! What a steal! Students can also use their flex, SUone, cash, or credit to complete their transaction. These wings smell so good when you walk by… it makes them hard to resist!

Think of all the ingredients it takes to make a rice crispy treat. Got it? Now delete the rice krispies, add in cinnamon toast crunch and sprinkles on top and you have the new amazing cinnamon toast marshmallow treat that I tried tonight in Rockland! It was very scrumptious. The marshmallow melted in my mouth while the cinnamon sweetness was hard to resist! Hopefully they have them tomorrow so I can recommend them to everyone!

Are you ready SU for Fish Fridays in Rockland? I sure am! To honor the celebration of Lent, the 40 days each year where we give up our gluten’s until Easter. Now those of us required to eat fish on Fridays during lent do not have to go far! Thanks Rockland!
By the way, the picture above is of Fresh Arctic Cod. It was absolutely delicious!

Barq’s Root Beer has finally found its way to Rockland at Stevenson University! Today while I was perusing through my drink selections, I noticed that we now have Barq’s Root Beer added to the soda dispenser machine on the right hand side of the drink station of Rockland. And I was not the only one excited by this discovery! One of my colleagues took half a cup of this delectable root beer and added a scoop of ice cream to it to make his very own Root Beer float! It was genius and very exciting! So if your taste buds are in need of a change, try some Barq’s Root beer with your dinner tonight… or dessert!

Today marks Fat Tuesday, the beginning of the most wonderful celebration on earth: Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is about more than collecting beads and drinking the week away. It is about celebrating New Orleans and the culture that enriches all of our lives. Now more than ever people are taking the time to stop and think about New Orleans and Mardi Gras especially after Hurricane Katrina.
Stevenson University is now in crunch time for the Alternative Spring Break Trip to New Orleans which is less than a month away! Even Reslife is getting in the spirit. The board shown above is located on the third floor of Susquehanna and has a lot of interesting facts about Mardi Gras on it!
If you haven’t taken the time to think about Fat Tuesday, you need to! It is the last day of gluten before Ash Wednesday, the markings of Lent. So eat all the donuts you want today. Be merry. It’s Mardi Gras.

Everybody loves coffee! So why not grab some for free??? This morning, the Patapsco ResLife staff woke up extra early to serve their residents delicious Dunkin Donuts and fresh coffee for free! I went over and grabbed myself a glazed donut and a cup of french vanilla coffee and it really got my morning started just the right way. Hopefully they decide to do this every month, because about 30 people and myself absolutley loved their gesture! So, Mornin’ Joe!
Valentine’s Day at College February 14, 2010

This year, Tylor and I spent Valentine’s Day at college. And instead of going too far away for our special dinner together, we walked right down the hill to Outback Steakhouse. It was so nice and convenient for us! No traffic, just a little bit of ice and a huge line to get into the door! Note to self: If you ever plan on going to Outback on a day you know will be busy, they take call ahead as soon as they open. Tylor called when they opened and called ahead for 6 p.m. and we only waited 30 minutes instead of the 150 minutes everyone else had to wait! However, it was well worth it. I was so excited to get some cheesy fries! They are soooooo gooooood!! (A half order is big enough for 2+ people) Below is a picture of how amazing they look :] I also got a burger, which was amusing for the waiter because Tylor got quesadillas. It was quite funny. But, if you ever want a nice sit down meal and don’t want to go far, go to Outback! They also offer take-out that you can order online AND they are connected to Bonefish, another fabulous food establishment!

Western Run says Happy Valentines Day!
Tonight, the Western Run ResLife Staff held an event in the third floor lobby to get the residents out of their room and have a little valentines day fun! Almost 30 residents popped into the event to make cards and cute little gifts for their valentine. Not only was it a lot of fun, it was a chance for all of us to come together during this snowy weather. Everyone seemed to loved the event and I cannot wait for the real Valentines Day to come!
Haven’t come up with a gift idea yet? Stuck inside because of the snow? Check out RA Ashleigh’s Bulletin Board in the first floor lobby of Western Run for cute, free/cheap ideas for your Valentine! My personal favorite is the memory jar :]
Snow Survival Kit February 10, 2010
Posted by Marina in : Winter 2009-2010 , add a commentThis past week has taught me many things about the snow, the cold weather, and how to endure all of it at college. So, to help all of you out, I have come up with a Snow Survival Kit to make sure we are all prepared for our next round of snow.
1) Food. If you here a snow storm is coming, go buy food. There were times when it was snowing so hard and the wind was going so fast that I wasn’t able to walk to Rockland! And, of course, you CANNOT go out during a winter storm to buy food. Most places close just like we do. Also, do not rely on delivery. When the storms get bad enough, delivery services are shut down. The most essential food items to have are bread, lunch meat, milk, water, and frozen meals in case you cannot access a hot meal.
2) Winter clothes. Alot of college students, including myself, do not think to pack up their snow boots and clothes when coming to college. However, thinking about bringing them to school after the storm hits is obviously too late. Make sure you grab them the next time you go home, you will need them again I’m sure!
3) Shovel. I cannot tell you home many students I watched digging out their cars with trashcans and sporting sticks this past week! The stores are all sold out, so do yourself a favor and grab an extra shovel from home. If there is an emergency, it will take you at least twice as long to dig yourself out with a trashcan than it would with a shovel.
4) Entertainment. Lets face it, a week snowed in is not ideal for anyone. Be prepared and have things to do while being stuck inside! Sure you can go outside and play in the snow… but that only lasts for so long! Board Games (especially Monopoly) are a great source of entertainment and bring people together. Movies are also great. Housewive re-runs get really old after the 6th time so try and build up your collection for times like these. Homework, as I hate to say it, can also be entertainment. Anything that keeps you busy, and not crazy, will help you deal with the inability to leave.
Bottom Line, BE PREPARED!
