Now we all need a good laugh once in a while – but Rob O’Reilly is hysterical!  I went to his show in the Rockland Banquet room tonight and almost fell on the floor looking!  With his string bean figure, pedophile glasses, and girlish hair, he could totally pass as a Stevenson student.  However, Rob comes from New York where he does comedy for a living.  He has been debuted on Comedy Central and a classical YouTube sensation.  So, looking for a good laugh?  Check him out!  You will not regret it!

Relief for Haiti February 25, 2010

I feel like the shirt says it all.

Today, Stevenson University took the time and effort to keep Haiti in their thoughts by implementing a shirt drive and making Haitian food in the Rockland Marketplace.  The shirts were only $5 and all of the proceeds are going to The Red Cross and directly to Haiti.  I heard that they sold out tonight in Rockland so it seems like everyone has one!  I know I sure do!  Didn’t get to buy a shirt?  Contact Student Activities to see if they have any left-overs and show you care about Haiti.

BINGO!!! February 24, 2010

BINGO is Stevenson’s favorite 5 letter word.  Especially when it involves a big screen t.v. and other prizes adding up to $500!  I gathered up all of my friends and headed over to the Rockland Banquet room to support the Lacrosse team and the opening of the upcoming season.  Everyone I knew was there!  And it was so much fun!  I mean, it’s always fun, it’s BINGO!  But my roommates Maria and Chelsea had overnighters and even their overnighters got some of the BINGO action and won some really cool prizes!  Stevenson has something for everyone, literally.  Unfortunately, I did not win anything… I never do.  But, congrats to Nick Muesel who took home the Big Screen on the last game!

Info Session February 24, 2010

The time has come once again for students to start thinking about housing plans for next year.  In lu of this thought, Residence Life is taking different steps towards educating students this year about the housing lottery process.  For now, students should be attending info sessions (like the one pictured above) and attend the mandatory floor meetings held by their RA’s.  It is important to get all the facts about the housing lottery before you end up homeless on campus! No, but seriously, find your roommates now, think about where you wanna live, get your housing deposit in, register for classes, fill out the characteristics form, and the rest will come at a later date.

Who doesn’t love a delicious root beer float?  I know I sure do!  So earlier tonight I took a quick stroll over to Patapsco where they were holding the best event ever: Root Beer Floats!  They were the most amazing thing ever to complete my oh so busy day.  Missed it?  That’s ok.  You can always make your own at Rockland, anytime!

Wanna help out more around campus by being charitable yourself?  Here is your ultimate opportunity!  The Western Run Hall council is sponsoring a canned food drive for the Suites and Wooded Way starting today and ending right after Spring Break!  Boxes with our flyers will be placed in all the resident halls and around both campuses in very spots.  All food porducts collected will be counted, sorted, and be sent to Our Daily Bread.  Because as well all know, there are still those who need our help here in America and in our local community.  So why not help out?  I promise donating a couple things will make you feel like gold for a day!  Besides, canned foods only cost about $1 a piece!  All donations will be greatly appreciated.  The Residence Hall that collects the most food will be thrown an Ice Cream party shortly after the food drive ends.  Whats not to love?  Donate your food items and get free ice cream!

Local Stations February 22, 2010

When leaving the gates of Stevenson University, I always have a hard time figuring out what radio station I should listen to.  Well, this week presented me with the opportunity to go and visit two of my favorite radio stations: 92Q and 98Rock!  92Q is one of my recent favorites since moving to Baltimore, but I have listened to 98Rock since I was a little girl!  So I woke up this morning anxious and excited to visit this very special local radio station that was gracious enough to donate items for the Vera Bradley and Basket BINGO this Saturday night!!!  Luckily for me I took someone with me so I wouldn’t get lost.  I didn’t, thankfully, but as I walked into the station I was greeted with a huge box full of merchandise and other cool stuff for the BINGO!  Friday, when I went to my other favorite, 92Q, I snagged some really awesome merchandise and advanced screening tickets to see Brooklyn’s Finest!  Oh it was so cool!  I can’t wait to send them a thank you card to tell them how much I appreciate them and all of the other gracious donors we have for this event.  So if you are trying to find a cool station to listen to, choose 92Q, 98Rock, DC101, or Mix107.3 – support them just like they have supported us and our spring break trip!

Do you have what it takes to become the next Microwave Chef?  Well with our easy Microwave Food Handbook, any one can be an expert chef!  Featured above are two of Western Runs very own Microwave Chefs, Amber and Kiara who showcased their skills earlier this evening for all of us in the lobby!  Chef Amber made delicious rice crispy treats that were definitely a crowd pleaser!  But Kiara went for something a little different -  lasagna.  Yes!  She made lasagna in the microwave and boy was it good!  And it was so easy!  So are you tired of the same old cup of noodles and popcorn for dinner?  Pick up one of our microwave survival guides from an RA in Western Run and be on your way to Microwave Chef success!

Wellness Wednesday: Eating Disorder Screenings February 17, 2010

Above is a picture of a National Eating Disorder Screening Form that I filled out today in the lobby of Rockland.  When I walked in to see what was going on, I found a table full of information on eating disorders as well as representatives from the Wellness Center and Active Minds!  For students who filled out the screening form and showed a score that puts them at risk of an eating disorder, Sarah Evans was on site to talk to them about the possible problem and how to stay healthy and happy with ourselves.  Wellness Wednesday events are so beneficial to every student on campus!

You would think after the crushing loss the Mustangs felt tonight that all of the basketball fans at the university would be feeling a little blue.  But on the contrary, they were pink!  Tonight’s Women’s and Men’s basketball ball games supported Breast Cancer by taking the notion of being pink!  This is a picture of Matt, a resident here at Stevenson and an avid basketball fan.  He was proud to wear pink to support our Mustangs and Breast Cancer!
