New Year, New Choices January 29, 2010

Previously, I wrote about the top ten New Year’s Resolutions for 2010.  But I feel like I left out something: Change.  Change is inevitable and can be great!  For the new year, I decided that my life ultimately needed a change so I sought the help of professionals.  In the Wellness Center, they offer free counseling to students who are of interest.  For up to 8 weeks, we can go down and talk about our problems and try to get our lives on track to where we want them to be.  So I took the advice of a friend and started counseling.  Know what the counselor told me?  She told me I need change.

For the last couple of weeks I have been making small but satisfying changes in my life.  For instance, Philadelphia was off of spontaneity and I LOVED IT!  I am applying for a summer RA job at a ballet school in Boston and I am also getting back in touch with my band side and applying for a Color Guard job at a local high school.  Recently I even started branching out and started trying new food.  This past week I believe I ate 8 different kinds of quesadillas from Rockland, including a smores quesadilla, and much to my surprise they were all very tasty!  So lesson learned?  Change is good.  Embrace it.  And if you need help, don’t be afraid to talk to someone!  Here is a picture of one of my delicious quesadilla adventures on Friday night, celebrating the success of life.

SPLASH! January 28, 2010

Now you may be wondering why I took a picture of the bathroom in Caves, but trust me, I have a good reason.  See that paper hanging on the wall next to the toilet for your convience?  That is called the SPLASH!  Brought on by SUConnections, students can now get the weekly updates on what’s going on around here at Stevenson.  But the problem is, the SPLASH needs your help!  We need appropriate bathroom jokes, cool people from SU doing cool things, upcoming events you want people to know about, quirky poles, and much, much more!  Interested in giving back to the SPLASH?  Well while you are reading our next issue, be sure to check out the email address at the bottom of the page and let us know what the scoop is around SU!

Nah, Zombieland.

Last night, MAP Movies brought this Critics Choice Award Nominated Movie for Comedy front and center in the Rockland Banquet Hall.  With it’s hit phrase “This place is dead,” the Banquet Hall was full of lively students laughing and carrying on as the two main characters try to fight a town overcome with none other than Zombies.  Although it sounds scary, the movie is actually very funny.  Haven’t seen it?  Rent it from our DVD Rental Box in Ratcliffe!

Sponsored by Student Activities and the Sophmore Council, the Rockland Blowout was a BLAST! Students were able to attend the event and unwind from the first two weeks of classes by getting henna tattooes, air brush trucker hats, photo dry erase boards, and candle art!  Also going on was Stevenson’s favorite: Bingo.  Those playing played for FREE and some really awesome gift cards were won! I don’t think I have honestly ever seen this many people in Rockland before!  Way to go Sophmore Council and Student Activities!

And to prove just how much we love this diverse group of students, Stevenson has implemented a plan to have them socialize while getting some free grub before class. How you ask?  The free commuter breakfast!  Every Wednesday morning in February, on both campuses, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Commuters will be given free breakfast!!  So eat up commuters, and feel the love this February!

Today was the grand opening of the brand new commuter lounge properly placed in Caves.  In honor of this opening, students, staff, and faculty members were asked to take a moment out of their day to relax on the comfy couches and enjoy the amazing dessert bar set up for this special occasion! I personally enjoyed the chocolate cake! Refreshments were also served while we were all caught sitting around talking about the Football Open House tomorrow!  Even more exciting than that is the fact the commuter now have a small place on the Owings Mills campus that they can call their “home.”

and shirts?

This coming Saturday is the Glow party sponsored by MAP – and what better way to promote the event than by offering free tshirts to students that they can decorate with glow paint?  I thought this was awesome!  I made sure my shirt said Stevenson on it – Represent.

Missed your chance?  Not yet!  Tomorrow from 12-1:30 in the Student Union MAP will be there with more shirts and even more glow paint!  Make sure you get their early, can’t be late to class!

Today, marking the first day of classes for the Spring 2010 semester, also marks the day that all of us here at Stevenson University found out that the new entrance from Caves will be opening this Friday!!!  Students will not be able to use the old entrance behind the business center from now on.  So for those of you coming to the Football Open House this Saturday, be sure to admire our new entrance off of Groff Road!

Rockland Opens with a Bang! January 18, 2010

This would be the most incredible sandwich Rockland has ever offered the students here at Stevenson University.  It is what we like to call the Turkey Reuben made up of toasted texas toast, fresh slices of turkey, melted swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and the delicious reuben sauce.  I don’t know what it is about Rockland, but the food today was extra extraordinary!  The salad bar was freshly stocked with greens a plenty and the lines were unbearable at times.  I went back tonight for dinner for the nachos and they were also very tasty!  Way to go Rockland!
