Recovery December 20, 2009

As many of my friends and family members know, I have now completed my second surgery to remove my pre-cancerous birth mark.  Last Tuesday, I went into the Surgery Center of Frederick Maryland at 6:45 a.m. to have the final portion removed.  With surgery taking almost 2 hours due to numbing complications, my father and boyfriend awaited anxiously in the waiting room while my mother sat in the operating room with me, holding my hand every step of the way.  Their love and support has helped me through this week with my recovery.  Which consists of pain medication and sitting in the recliner, trying not to over-strain myself.  And as many of you know, I am a busy body… so this week has been tortuous.  I am thankful to say that I returned to my daily grind this morning and finally updated my blogs – sorry for the wait.  And I know my boss is reading this blog thinking – why is she writing about this?  Well, along with recovery, I was reminded that Stevenson University and the people I have met there have impacted my life in such a positive way.  Tuesday morning and throughout the entire week I received at least 30 text messages wishing me luck and a speedy recovery.  But what I will cherish most is the bouquet of tulips (my favorite flower) sent to my house from my suitemates, Maria and Chelsea.  So although I am stuck here at home looking out the window, patiently waiting to get back out into the real world, I am reminded of the love and support I have back at school.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this recovery successful and positive for me.
