Great American Smoke-Out November 19, 2009

Today, the Wellness Center sponored a campus wide event called the Great American Smoke Out. “Commit to Quit” was the events headliner and it was such a success! Being National Smoking Awareness Month, students, faculty, and staff were educated on what smoking can do to your body and ways to stop smoking.
On the Greenspring Campus, they drew a box and wrote “Great American Smoke-Out” in the middle with other words such as “Smoke Free Zone.” This gave students a place to sit and relax without having to breathe in second hand smoke that is actually more harmful than smoking itself.
Although Stevenson University is not a smoke-free University, the Resident Halls have made it easier for non-smokers to live in a low smoke area. Students are not allowed to smoke in the resident halls and starting this year, students have been asked to stand ten feet away from the over hangs if they would like to take a smoke break. Although it has not been enforced to the extent it should be, the University is pushing towards making our environment comfortable for every student.
