Happy Anniversary Jazzman’s! October 12, 2009
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2009 , add a comment10 Scrumptious Years

This past week, students and faculty alike were noticing this “10 Years” emblem on their drink cups. Over the last year, Jazzman’s Cafe’ and Bakery has transformed what it means to drink using your meal plan. Offering specialty coffees, teas, and smothies, Jazzman’s is all around delicious! And new this year to Stevenson, we can swipe our meal card for a small drink and a bakery item of our choice!! The rice crispy treats and the brownies are my FAVORITE! Jazzman’s has also come out with a fall-friendly blend of drinks. The Pumpkin smoothie is a must have – it tastes exactly like pumpkin pie! An the Pumpkin Chai Latte is a great mix between pumpkin and my original favorite, chai tea.
Stop on in today and join the celebration!
Get a Taste of New Orleans! October 4, 2009

The Lagniappe Faire was an event dedicated to the culture of New Orleans. Earlier in the day, Build Community Day participants were hard at work painting, planting trees, and performing other services so it was only faire that they have something awesome to end the day with. Those who did not participate in the BCD were asked to pay $5 admission. Rockland Catering made the food for the event. The line up: Jumbalaya (meat and vegetarian), corn bread, corn on the cob, and mock tails (hurricane or mint julep). THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD! It made me feel like I was back at the refugee church in Southern Mississippi where I ate authentic New Orleans cuisine. And dessert – to die for. I do not remember what it was called but it was bananas cooked in brown sugar, cinnamon, and captain morgan over ice cream!! Yummmmm!
Enough about the food (I love talking about food!). The raffle was a huge success! With all proceeds from the event going towards the Alternative Spring Break Trip, raffle tickets were bought for individual prizes and a laptop! The lucky winner at the end of the night bought the arm length after me – just my luck! However I found out I inquire more luck than most through my tarot card reading. This lady was legit! I was shocked at how dead on her visions were!! And the henna tattoo station was also really cool. But my favorite thing to do at this faire was decorate my own mardi gras mask!!! Mine is glittery and pretty!
All in all, the Mission: I’m Home team were pleased with the turn out for the event. The band played all night and people are still talking about it today!
Crabs and Wings!! October 2, 2009
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2009 , add a commentWelcome to the First Annual Crab and Wing Feast!

Talk about Yummy!! These crabs tasted better than they look!
For 6 crabs, 10 wings (hot or barbeque), drinks and sides, $10 for students, $15 for staff and faculty, and $20 for guests can’t be beat!! Gathered around about 15 tables in the Ratcliffe Community Center, Phi Sigma Sigma and Active Minds hosted this awesome evening of Maryland pride! There were so many crabs left over that they were selling them for the best price offered! And seconds were a plus – too bad my stomach can’t stretch!!
This was such a treat – I can’t wait for next year!
Founder’s Day 2009 October 1, 2009

(Formerly Villa Julie College)

If you weren’t in class on Founder’s Day – you were outside experiencing what our school has to offer. In the morning, students, faculty, and staff were invited for Coffee and Donuts on the Greenspring Campus. Bright and early, people were outside handing out Burger Cookies while waiting for the Mass to begin with the Sisters of Notre Dame. Not only was the Mass completely booked, the Tea was too!! What a great turn out!
But beside’s celebrating the history of the college, the purpose of Founder’s Day is to celebrate where we are today. The events started to appear here on the Owings Mills campus around 12 p.m. with the Student Picnic lunch out in the Suites Quad. It was DELICIOUS!! And watching the teachers and staff feed us later that evening was PRICELESS!
Beyond the free food came the fun and interesting activities. The kickball tournament was a success while the service projects being held in the renamed Ratcliffe building was off to a great start. Later in the evening came the Powderpuff Football Game – there’s nothing like tradition! The Senior girls beat the Underclassman, as usual.
The day did not end with the game however. This year, Stevenson held the first ever Stevenson’s Got Talent. The Inscape Theatre was packed!! 150 people were turned away from the event due to lack of seats and 15 contestants were cut due to tremendous amounts of talent. Participants sang, acted, recited poetry, played instruments, and even danced. I loved every second of it!! At the end of the event, Ryan Taguding was announced the winner of the trip to Ocean City for Spring Break. He won with his song “Sometimes” that he wrote for “some chick.” Congrats to all of the contestants – it was definitely a night to remember!
