Rain, Rain October 19, 2009

It is no secret that it rains often here at Stevenson University. So what do we do, as college students, when we are stuck inside all day? Our sporting events get cancelled. Our classes are non-existent on Fridays. And our pockets have run low on cash.
Here are a few things you can do to drown out the rain!
1. Watch a movie – either by yourself or with a group of friends! And if you don’t have any, you can rent newer movies in Ratcliffe for a fee of $1.50. OR – you can whip out your favorite television season, gather up a group of friends, and crash in your lounge! You’d be surprised how much fun sitting around and doing nothing can be.
2. Be crafty! With the holiday seasons coming up, do something nice for yourself, a friend, or even a family member and make them something special! A photo album is great for mothers
Handmade ornaments are also a great thought! You could even make decorations for your room that everyone can enjoy! I personally have a TON of Halloween stuff up right now! Or – you can color. Coloring is a proven stress outlet and can also serve as a relaxer. I take my coloring book and crayons with me to my most stressful classes.
3. Go shopping! Like I said, the holidays are coming! Many websites are beginning to promote holiday sales. Also, ornaments are being released this month – so grab them before someone else does! It is NEVER too early to Christmas shop! You can also browse online for yourself… I am guilty of this.
4. Do your HOMEWORK. I know, I know. This one is lame – but it is necessary. A rainy day is the perfect time to sit on your bed with a blanket and concentrate on your studies. The sound of rain is soothing for most people. Plus, it is a great time to get ahead on projects or readings so that when it’s not raining, you won’t be stuck inside!
5. The most important thing of all – Sleep. Like I said, the rain is very soothing. Most college students do not receive the recommended eight hours of sleep per night. So rest your head – cuddle up underneath your blanket, turn the lights off, and put in a sleep-friendly movie. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed!
