VILLAFEST 2009 October 19, 2009

Between Friday and Saturday, the possibilities to have fun were endless here at SU!  When we arrived, the Alumni’s were having fun in the pavillion at Happy Hour.  As students, under the age of 21, we were not invited.  However, up the stairs, we were!  The kid friendly area up in the Student Union had face painting, food, glow sticks, and much much more!  Including the HAUNTED HALLWAY!

Originally named the Haunted Trail, the Haunted Hallway was just as adventerous and spooky as the original.  Due to the weather, the “trail” was moved into the Academic Center.  This year, the hay rides and bonfire were cancelled.  However, students stood in line for over an hour to see what the different clubs and organizations on campus had come up with!  Each room was decorated differently based off of the clubs concept.  At the end, we voted for our favorite room and recieved a free Thriller cup filled with yummy popcorn!

Next, we moved back downstairs to the gym and waited for Midnight Madness to begin!  The first order of  business for the evening was the presentation of the Semi-Finalist Lacrosse Banner for the 2009 season. It was followed up with the introduction of the Cheerleading squad!  They performed for the first time this year.  When watching their performance, I noticed that we had two very special guests enter the gym.  During the introduction of the Women’s Basketball Team, I took pictures of these mystery guests!

That’s right!  President Manning and Wild Stang joined us at this wonderful athletic celebration!  But that isn’t all boys and girls – after the Women’s scrimmage, it was the Men’s alumni versus the 2009 Men’s Basketball Team!!!  It was a GREAT game!  The Alumni won in the last ten seconds by 2 points!!! This amazing game was followed up by the Dance Team.  They performed to a medley of Michael Jackson classics, honoring the “Thriller” theme for this year.

The next day, Villafest continued on the Owings Mills campus in the Bubble down the hill behind caves.  Because it was raining, all sporting events were cancelled and all other events were moved inside.  But it did not matter – it was so much fun! I walked in the bubble with nothing and walked out with an array of special foods and crafts.  All the different clubs were out and were showcasing their activity.  To name a few, I got my face painted, made a Michael Jackson glove, dipped my own caramel apple, painted a pumpkin, ate some delicious food, and heard awesome live music!

Way to go SU!  Hope to see everyone out tonight at Recycled Percussion!

Rain, Rain October 19, 2009

Go AWAY!

It is no secret that it rains often here at Stevenson University.  So what do we do, as college students, when we are stuck inside all day?  Our sporting events get cancelled.  Our classes are non-existent on Fridays.  And our pockets have run low on cash.

Here are a few things you can do to drown out the rain!

1.  Watch a movie – either by yourself or with a group of friends!  And if you don’t have any, you can rent newer movies in Ratcliffe for a fee of $1.50.  OR – you can whip out your favorite television season, gather up a group of friends, and crash in your lounge!  You’d be surprised how much fun sitting around and doing nothing can be.

2.  Be crafty!  With the holiday seasons coming up, do something nice for yourself, a friend, or even a family member and make them something special!  A photo album is great for mothers :)   Handmade ornaments are also a great thought! You could even make decorations for your room that everyone can enjoy!  I personally have a TON of Halloween stuff up right now! Or – you can color.  Coloring is a proven stress outlet and can also serve as a relaxer.  I take my coloring book and crayons with me to my most stressful classes.

3.  Go shopping! Like I said, the holidays are coming!  Many websites are beginning to promote holiday sales.  Also, ornaments are being released this month – so grab them before someone else does!  It is NEVER too early to Christmas shop! You can also browse online for yourself… I am guilty of this. :)

4.  Do your HOMEWORK.  I know, I know.  This one is lame – but it is necessary.  A rainy day is the perfect time to sit on your bed with a blanket and concentrate on your studies.  The sound of rain is soothing for most people.  Plus, it is a great time to get ahead on projects or readings so that when it’s not raining, you won’t be stuck inside!

5.  The most important thing of all – Sleep.  Like I said, the rain is very soothing. Most college students do not receive the recommended eight hours of sleep per night.  So rest your head – cuddle up underneath your blanket, turn the lights off, and put in a sleep-friendly movie.  You’ll wake up feeling refreshed! ;)

MUSTANGS!

I was walking past the Mustang Room the other night to Rockland when I noticed this new edition on the wall!  This proves that we definitely have school spirit!
