Founder’s Day 2009 October 1, 2009

(Formerly Villa Julie College)

If you weren’t in class on Founder’s Day – you were outside experiencing what our school has to offer. In the morning, students, faculty, and staff were invited for Coffee and Donuts on the Greenspring Campus. Bright and early, people were outside handing out Burger Cookies while waiting for the Mass to begin with the Sisters of Notre Dame. Not only was the Mass completely booked, the Tea was too!! What a great turn out!
But beside’s celebrating the history of the college, the purpose of Founder’s Day is to celebrate where we are today. The events started to appear here on the Owings Mills campus around 12 p.m. with the Student Picnic lunch out in the Suites Quad. It was DELICIOUS!! And watching the teachers and staff feed us later that evening was PRICELESS!
Beyond the free food came the fun and interesting activities. The kickball tournament was a success while the service projects being held in the renamed Ratcliffe building was off to a great start. Later in the evening came the Powderpuff Football Game – there’s nothing like tradition! The Senior girls beat the Underclassman, as usual.
The day did not end with the game however. This year, Stevenson held the first ever Stevenson’s Got Talent. The Inscape Theatre was packed!! 150 people were turned away from the event due to lack of seats and 15 contestants were cut due to tremendous amounts of talent. Participants sang, acted, recited poetry, played instruments, and even danced. I loved every second of it!! At the end of the event, Ryan Taguding was announced the winner of the trip to Ocean City for Spring Break. He won with his song “Sometimes” that he wrote for “some chick.” Congrats to all of the contestants – it was definitely a night to remember!
