Home for Halloween October 31, 2009
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2009 , 1 comment so farWhile many people like to stay on campus and celebrate Halloween with their friends, I prefer to go home and spend it with my family. Unfortunately, my Dad’s girlfriend was unable to celebrate with us. However, Tylor, My Dad, and I had a blast handing out candy to all the little kids. AND THEY WERE SO CUTE! I gave extra candy to the really cute kids :o) Anywho, my Dad, as always, put on his scary mask and hid around the house just waiting to scare the children!!! All of a sudden, he gets the brilliant idea to lay on the roof of our house and spotlight kids walking down our driveway!! That’s my Dad! Too bad his daughter is such a scaredy cat! Anyway, just like last year, I would like to share some of my families Jack-O-Lanterns with you all!

Boo! I See You!
Actually, I saw alot of people out at the Costume Contest! Held upstairs in the Rockland Banquest Room, students were asked to come out dressed in their Halloween best. Even if you weren’t dressed up, you were still invited to watch the judging and stay for HARRY POTTER!!! And not just any Harry Potter, the NEW Half Blood Prince. But back to the Constume Contest, the first place winner won a Big Screen TV!!!! Way to go (scary person)!
And yes, I stayed for the movie and sat at the edge of my seat the entire time… even though I saw it in theatres
Our Biggest Event of the Season! October 28, 2009

As a matter of fact, it is. Root Beer Pong was just one of the many events going on at the Sober Party in Western Run! Starting at 8 p.m., students were aloud to drink, sing, play games, and win prizes… until quiet hours of course! To be more specific, the Sober Party was an event dedicated towards the education of sobriety. The goal was to teach students that they can have fun with theirs friends WITHOUT alcohol. Of the 100+ residents that attended, only a select few became masters of the pong table!
You must be wondering how all of this happened in one area… well, it didn’t. We split Western Run into three floors. The third floorhosted Mocktails and Food, the second floor Trivia and the Costume Contest, and the first floor The Sober Olympics and Karaoke. To celebrate Halloween, each floor gave out an overabundance of Halloween treats!!!
Thanks to all that attended and made this event such a success!

Students around here cannot wait until next year’s football season to arrive – but for now a quiet game in the quad will do. This Monday night, students were outside playing touch football until about 6:30 p.m. I usually see these guys out in the quad EVERY Monday – way to go boys! And if you haven’t already heard, hold on to your seats SU, football is arriving here shortly!!!!
Can’t wait? Don’t forget to join the ResLife staff in the Ratcliffe TV Lounge every Monday night around 8 to watch the NFL games and eat FREE wings. Yes, free wings!
Decorate Your Door! October 26, 2009
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2009 , add a commentIn the Spirit of the Halloween Season, students here in Western Run participated in a Door Decorating contest sponsored by the Western Run Hall Council. At 8 p.m., students met the group leaders in the lobby to discuss the rules and judging guidelines. Each door representative was given a cup full of materials they were required to add to their door. The items were as follows: the cup, a utensil packet from pandinis, a balloon, a napkin, and a feather. Students were allowed to use any other resources they had to help with the decorations. Judging took place at exactly 9:13 p.m. and the winners were announced shortly after. RA’s were the formal judges for the event and announced the door below as our grand prize winner of a $20 gift card to Safeway! Congrats to all that entered – your doors looked FABULOUS

I will admit that sometimes walking around campus, I find the strangest things. But tonight while walking past Susquehanna, I noticed something glowing. I turn to my right and see a Jack-O-Latern on the ground! The carvings remind me of a spider in a way. I love it! Who knew SU was so festive? (I did). Anyway, Halloween is only 5 days away. I know every year I go trick-or-treating in my neighborhood! But this year, I’m not going to wait to begin the festivities!
This week, ResLife and the BSU are throwing events honoring this spooky time of the year!
Monday: Trick-or-Treat bags in Susquehanna
Decorate Your Door in Western Run
Tuesday: Western Run SOBER PARTY and Costume Contest
Friday: BSU Costume Party! in Rockland

This week, students were given the opporutnity to join the International Club while partaking in a very interesting dance class. Held in the banquet room in Rockland, the club organized this dance class as an exercise related event. Every Thursday, you can move on up to the banquet room and dance to the musical styles of Reggae, Soco, Reggaeton, and African. So, school got you down? Feel like all you do is sit in your desk chair? Well get up! And dance, dance, dance!
Not Just a Volleyball Court October 22, 2009

Almost every single day I find myself walking to Ratcliffe for something; whether it be a Pumpkin Chai or flyers, I am there. But on this particular day, I walked by the Volleyball Court and noticed something sticking out of the sand. It was a hump. But not just any hump, the hump of a very pregnant sand sculpture. The sand woman’s body was completed with a heart shaped face. Kuddos to whoever made such amazing sand art!
H1N1 Vaccine October 22, 2009

On Wednesday, students here at Stevenson University were given the opportunity to recieve the H1N1 Vaccine for free. Being that SU is considered a Vaccination Site, we had the priviledge of recieving the vaccine in our very own Wellness Center. From 10-1, the line of students wrapped almost around the entire building. It was crazy! But it is wonderful that so many students are taking the cautious approach to the swine flu and being proactive. Staff and Faculty were only offered the vaccine if supplies lasted.
The Wellness Center advises students to wash their hands frequently and call them if you are feeling ill.
