Welcome Learning Beyond to Owings Mills!

On September 2nd, Stevenson University held an event dedicated to the welcoming of Learning Beyond.  As we all know, any event with cake, ice cream, and tie dye can’t go wrong!!  It was held from 1 – 4 in their new home, Wooded Way.  Staff members had made their shirts a day ahead of time – so they were ready to go!  Serving ice cream and cutting cake, giving tours and helping with the tie dye.  No matter what the task they were very very organized.  SO – need help with that resume? Trying to find a job?  Have questions about after college?  Head down the hill and to the right, Career Services will be waiting.

Is This The Same Stuff? Breakfast

It has been a good three weeks into the semester here at SU and all I hear about is the food and people asking, “Is this the same stuff?”  And the answer is yes, the food is still the same – and it’s actually good this year.  After a while, we all get sick of the food – it’s natural, but this year SU has committed to giving us healthier options that taste better! They have even expanded options for vegatarian and vegan students. A Sodexo Nutritionist visited our campus about two weeks ago which is proof that things are changing.  Not to mention, the food at Pandini’s has improved!  The new “green” boxes are so cool.  So before you think you have to make a run to taco bell or make some oodles and noodles, give the dining food a chance – you might actually like it ;)

Butt Sketches?

Yes, Butt Sketches.  On September 8th, MAP sponsored an event that was kind of… backwards.  We are all used to caricatures – but of our butts?  Contrary to what we all thought, it ended up being one of the most entertaining events I’ve been to on campus! Way to go MAP!   Be on the lookout for more events sponsored by MAP and the rest of the organizations on campus!

My First Day

This picture shows the highlight of my entire week!  I started my field placement this week as a Second Year Teacher Candidate at Pot Spring Elementary School.  As one of our assignments, we had to introduce ourselves to the class using our “Me Bags.”  My bag contained this towel, my Go Mustangs towel, that I recieved at my very first lacrosse game.  I talked about school pride and supporting your school and they loved it!  One little boy kept asking me questions afterwards about SU!  It was so cute.  I am so ready to be in the classroom teaching my own kids, but I still have a few years. ;)  Oh and one more thing - I told the kids about Wild Stang, and they want to meet him. hahahaha.

Sexual Jeopardy

jeopardy

On Wednesday night, Residence Life and the Wellness Center sponsored Sexual Jeopardy.  It is important that we as college students are informed and knowledgable about our sex lives.  And if education wasn’t enough of an incentive – the floor with the most students present won pizza for the next floor meeting!  And the goody bags were full of various contraceptives (so you don’t have to ask your RA at 1 a.m.).  Sexual Jeopardy was one of several Sexual Awareness events that went on this week at SU.

And as we say here, “Just Wear It.”

Free Food and Drink?

odwalla

You bet your bottom dollar I was there!  Odwalla has made a name for itseld here at SU for providing us with delicious fruit drinks that unfortunately are only offered through our Flex Dollars.  None the less, the drinks and snack bars are amazingly healthy and great-tasting. SO, Thursday around lunch time, Odwalla sent out a representative to our school with free food and drink samples!  YUM!  If you haven’t tried odwalla products, be daring and pick something up at Jazzman’s where they carry 10+ different flavors of fruity goodness.  And make sure to note Jazzman’s new hours of operation – they’re awesome! (or at least, better than last year.)

FOAM PARTY!! September 1, 2009

Just when I thought SU couldn’t get any better – they threw a foam party in the Suites Quad on Saturday.  From 3-7, music was bumpin’ and the suds were flyin’.  There were loads of prizes and contests – woopee!  I won’t go into great detail, but here’s an awesome picture!! :)

Occasionally I like to write about things that happen off campus – and this year i am going to take the time to write about things going on around us – so hopefully you all will become inspired.

As some of you may already know, Fall marks the beginning of a special Maryland tradition – better known as the Renaissance Festival!!  Now, for those of you who haven’t gone – YOU HAVE TO GO! It is so much fun!  Not to mention, you can get discounted tickets from the Student Activities Office.

Now you may be asking – what is there to do at this Renfest?  Well – you can shop:  everyone knows I love shopping.  They have all sorts of magical shops with arts and crafts and specialty foods.  You can enjoy the shows:  there are always comedy acts or musical acts taking place!  They also have old time events like jousting – with real horses!  You can play:  with games and mazes, there is always something to do!  You can eat – I LOVE THE CHEESECAKE ON A STICK!!!!

And lastly – you can enjoy yourself, with your family and your friends.

Last Thursday was your chance to meet and greet members of different clubs, groups, and organizations spread across the SU community.  But don’t worry – it’s never too late!!  Even if you didn’t make it to the welcome picnic, there are still opportunities for you to sign up!  First: pick the clubs that you are interested in.  Two: email the coordinator, or find out the meetings dates – and GO! Three:  SHOW YOUR INTEREST – be included :)   You can also ask your friends for some of the flyers they pass out – like the one shown below!
