Welcome to Baltimore! September 23, 2009

Last night, a few coworkers and I had the wonderful opportunity of Welcoming people to Baltimore in the BWI Airport! Maria and I love the airport so it was the perfect job for us! But I know what you are thinking, why are you in the airport standing there with those on your heads? They are our crab hats, representing Baltimore, duh! As we stood there for a couple of hours, we recieved numerous compliments on our hats, and even told travelers where they could find one!
However our purpose for being there was to Welcome counselors from all over the United States coming into Baltimore for a National Conference, known as NCAAC. It is a conference where counselors from around the country learn about other schools – so it’s like a college fair, only more professional. We greeted people from Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Texas! It was so much fun!

If you are new to the area, it won’t take you long to figure out that this is Raven’s country… aka, Stevenson LOVES The Ravens!
So Sunday, the ResLife Apartment staff through a Pre-Game Party to kick off the game just right. There were drinks, cookies, brownies, chips, and my favorite, homemade Crab Dip!!! The event was held in the big screen tv room in Avalon. I had a blast hanging out with everyone and waiting for the game to start!
It was also funny to see people out and about until around 3:30 – pre-game. The campus at that point was dead silent!

Congratulations to the Stevenson University Community for hosting the biggest September Open House in the college’s history – very impressive. We had about 200 students, with parents, attend this past Saturday. For those of us who called all of the potential students to RSVP, give yourselves a pat on the back. (pat, pat)
Saturday, the campus was full of fresh new faces that looked EXSTATIC to be here at Stevenson. Hopefully we’ll recruit a huge freshmen class for next year!

Ew, The Flu? September 23, 2009
Posted by Marina in : Fall 2009 , add a commentGo get your flu shot NOW, DO NOT WAIT!!
It is that time of year again where it is imperative for the university faculty, staff, and students be properly vaccinated. The flu is an adolescents worst enemy. Last Wednesday, the Wellness Center offered vaccines to the SU community both at the Greenspring and Owings Mills campuses. There is/will be a fee of $20 that can be paid by cash or charged to your student account. The vaccine will insure safety for our entire community, not just the people you hang with. If you, or someone you know, are feeling sick or are showing symptoms of the flu, CALL the Wellness Center immediately.
A lot of students have a concern for the H1N1 flu virus. Unfortunately, Stevenson University is unsure if we are being provided with the H1N1 vaccination. Because we are a vacination cite however, we are on the top of the list to recieve these shots. And do not worry about missing class because you are sick! The Wellness Center are working together with Academics to insure students that personal health is MORE IMPORTANT than straining yourself and going to class, sick.
If you have any questions, do not hesistate to call the Wellness Center!

Mr Clean. Goes Sweet! September 23, 2009

Tuesday night, the Reslife Staff of Western Run sponsored an event that had everything to do with laundry and ice cream. I know what you are thinking, the two really don’t go together? But what do you do when you are a college freshman and you’re used to your mommy doing your laundry for you – and oops, you got ice cream on your shirt!! There is NO magic laundry fair here at Stevenson University. However at this event, students were tested on their folding skills as well as their sunday making skills. We had three rounds of folding until it got serious – the championship round. All finalists were given a different laundry product so that when they get ice cream on their shirts, they are covered!

And here comes my favorite part – ICE CREAM. The second half of the event was dedicated to making delicious sundaes. With topping like bananas, whipped cream, and fudge, who wouldn’t want to be there? Participants of the sundae making contest were judged based off of three criteria: appearance, taste, and creativity. The winner won a $10 gift card to Coldstone (to get more yummy ice cream, for free)!!! Congrats to all the winners and thanks to those who came out to support 102!
