Book Buyback Blues? May 7, 2009

Posted by Marina in : General , trackback

So you finished your exams and your last stop for the summer is the bookstore, to sell back the books you paid so much for.  You stand in line at the back of the door and wait patiently.  Then, suddenly, it’s your turn.  You carry your books a little higher to sit them on the counter and proceed to say “I accept cash.”  The clerk scans in all your books and says, “I’m sorry, we aren’t accepting any of these back.”

This is the second semester that this has happened to me.  And I’m sure I’m not the only one with lost hopes.  So for those of you frustrated and in the same position I am in, and for those of you entering next year that may face this problem – I have an explanation from the bookstore manager herself.

According to her, when the bookstore has bought back its limit, they no longer accept the books.  Which is understandable.  However, the bookstore works with a company that buys back books for University’s across the United States.  Meaning, any books used specially for Stevenson you can forget about trying to sell it!  BUT – there is SOME hope still left.  She also said that if you didn’t have luck with this buyback, starting in about two weeks, the book store will be starting their daily buy backs.  AND – it would be a good idea to call ahead of time to make sure they can purchase back your books.

And of course, you can always save the books til next year to sell them to other students. OR – sell them on eBay, Amazon, Craig’s list, etc..

I hope this information has been helpful!  And I’m sorry if any of you are stuck in this position with me.
