Books, Books, & More Books January 4, 2009

It’s that time of year again.  If tuition wasn’t enough to put a dent in your wallet, books will be the true killer.

There are many things you can do to refrain from having to buy those brand new hundred dollar books.

1.  Buy used – the bookstore offers new and some used textbooks, so take full advantage!  They are in good condition with little wear and tear from student uses, for about half the price of a brand new book.  Also take note of what classes you’re taking, and for some classes, although it lists the book, the professor may tell you not to buy the book – so don’t jump the gun, but don’t wait too long, or you’ll be stuck buying new.

2. Go Cheaper – Buy from a friend – Buying directly from your peers can save you money and put more cash back in the sellers pocket.  When you buy from a friend, the price for their used book is generally $20 cheaper than the book store.  And although it seems a little underground – it helps everyone around.  So check with your pals, check facebook and bulletin boards, and find what you need.

3. Rent – Renting textbooks for a semester can save you up to 85%.  For this semester, I’m getting three books for $90.  Through the bookstore, it would originally cost me $235.  The only problem is that renting textbooks does not go through the university – so make sure you take note of book editions and even find out what covers look like.  There are many reliable book rental companies – but be careful for frauds and scams.  And also make sure to check the due date, give yourself a reasonable amount of time to get your books returned to the company.

I hope my cheap tips will help you and your wallet feel a little bit better this semester, and semesters to come.  Enjoy :)

These are my New Years resolutions for the year 2009. Enjoy. :)

1.  Financially settle down – aka cut back on my shoe addiction.

2.  Learn to move on from past events in my life – they do nothing but bring me down.

3.  Focus more on school and my future.

4.  Build back up my relationships with people who were once very close to me.

5.  Stop stressing and lose some lbs. – more or less take better care of myself.

Happy New Year :)

Well… Not exactly.

BUT – coolest thing ever happened to me today.  I was out with Tylor to lunch at our favorite spot, Buffalo Wild Wings, when a reporter came up to our table and just wanted to talk.  Little did I know that our sly talk would land me in front of the camera for the local news at 6.  That’s right – your girl hit it big.  I mean, I’m no Angelina or Jeniffer – but I’m Marina and I def. repped it for my small sports bar today, on New Years, 2009.

So below is the link to my television debut.  I sound really country and a little honky tonk – but hey, every one has a little something special about them!!  :)
