Dec. 1 – World AIDS Day. December 2, 2008
Posted by Marina in : Uncategorized , trackbackYesterday was the day to strut your stuff wearing the red ribbon, supporting AIDS.
For the people who live there lives HIV Positive, it is a day tribute to them – a day to let them know we pray for them, and a day to raise awareness so you don’t have to live like them.
At 7 p.m. last night, a girl by the name of Allie spoke in the Rockland conference room, about her life, with AIDS. She wants to put “the WE back in HIV.” She was positive, upbeat, and inspiring to say the least. Her story touched me in so many ways.
The presentation also discussed ways to prevent yourself from becoming HIV positive. One way, of course, is to protect yourself. At the end of the presentation, little “goody bags” were given out in honor of World AIDS Day. These little bags have condoms, a pamphlet, lubricant, other contraceptives, and other things to help people protect themselves. One night could ruin your entire life.
So be safe. Being a Student here at Stevenson University, condoms and other variances are offered to us at no charge through the Wellness Center. It maybe embarrassing to go in and grab some condoms – but how embarrassing would it be to find out you have an STD?
