Presidential Debate: Round Two. October 8, 2008
Posted by Marina in : Informational Events , trackbackLast night, eager young (and old) students gathered around in the Avalon Community Center’s big screen room and watched the much anticipated debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. Surprisingly, there was little to be said in the room – maybe because not much of anything was really being said at the debate. There is no question that Barack Obama is in the lead when it comes to young adults in the United States right now. But I think it’s great that students want to explore both sides of this election, because for many (including me), this election will be the first time they get to vote – and their vote could change America, and our futures. Politics - yes, are very boring – but are essential.
Now on the other hand – political leaders are not always that essentially well-spoken. For example. I walked into my English 151 class today and had a discussion with my teacher about the comment that McCain made that was heard and picked apart by the entire country. “Many people did not vote for the 700 billion dollar bailout – like that one…” as he points to Obama. Wow is the correct word to use here. Not to mention, I heard the phrase “I love my country” for every single answer McCain presented to the public. LAME. Yes we know you love your country – but what are you going to do to help and change this country?
As you can see, I am a Democrat and I am voting for Barack Obama this year. But moral of the story is, I’m happy to see my peers getting out there and caring about who is elected into office. It’s also good to have strong personal views and morals… and it helps to have someone running that shares almost the same views and morals.
I also liked how McCain wore a red tie with a white shirt, and Obama wore a blue tie with a white shirt. Can’t get much more patriotic than that folks.
