Men’s Soccer Team Feels Defeat. October 8, 2008

The four o’clock men’s soccer game ended in a hard loss today against Salisbury University.  Sitting up top towards Caves watching the game, I saw streaks of yellow flashing down the field like lightning bolts, as dots of white tried their hardest to defend their honorary goal line.  Salisbury pulled out the strong 3-0 finishing score after halftime.  They put up a tough fight for Stevenson’s boys, but unfortunately the fight was a little more rugged than expected.

Good Job Men – Hang in there. :)

Presidential Debate: Round Two. October 8, 2008

Last night, eager young (and old) students gathered around in the Avalon Community Center’s big screen room and watched the much anticipated debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.  Surprisingly, there was little to be said in the room – maybe because not much of anything was really being said at the debate.  There is no question that Barack Obama is in the lead when it comes to young adults in the United States right now.  But I think it’s great that students want to explore both sides of this election, because for many (including me), this election will be the first time they get to vote – and their vote could change America, and our futures.  Politics - yes, are very boring – but are essential.

Now on the other hand – political leaders are not always that essentially well-spoken.  For example.  I walked into my English 151 class today and had a discussion with my teacher about the comment that McCain made that was heard and picked apart by the entire country.  “Many people did not vote for the 700 billion dollar bailout – like that one…” as he points to Obama.  Wow is the correct word to use here. Not to mention, I heard the phrase “I love my country” for every single answer McCain presented to the public.  LAME.  Yes we know you love your country – but what are you going to do to help and change this country?

As you can see, I am a Democrat and I am voting for Barack Obama this year.  But moral of the story is, I’m happy to see my peers getting out there and caring about who is elected into office.  It’s also good to have strong personal views and morals… and it helps to have someone running that shares almost the same views and morals.

I also liked how McCain wore a red tie with a white shirt, and Obama wore a blue tie with a white shirt.  Can’t get much more patriotic than that folks. :D

Sand Volleyball: Mission Completed October 8, 2008

FINALLY!  The sidewalks are open, and the sand is flyin’.  After some last minute adjustments to the new sand volleyball area, students were having a blast doing something new yesterday.  There was a group of boys jumping, and laughing, and serving – just having the time of their lives.  One guy even wanted to play so bad – that he left his cute little white dog leashed to the construction fence poles!  Little did he know, his dog got more attention than he did – as we walked by hearing “OMG he’s so cute – I’m taking him with me!”  The boy grinned and said “No, no.”  It was adorable to say the least.  But it’s fun to just go out, put your feet in the sand, and do something fun and new (to the Stevenson campus).  Take a group of friends… Or join in with people already down there.  If you aren’t interested in playing, it’s always a good time sitting, relaxing, and watching the boys play some… ‘beach volleyball.’

So sit back, or kick it up, and enjoy :)
