Windy, Windy Weather October 29, 2008

Boy oh Boy has it been windy that last couple of days!  This is the kind of weather that makes you want to stay in bed all day.  It’s really hard to stay warm outside but I’ve learned a few ways to get through the cold and make it to my classes.

First of all – Bundle up!  I mean scarves, gloves, coats, and NO flip-flops!  The wind goes right through you so make sure to wear layers.   You can always take off clothing when you reach class.  Second of all – walk a little faster.  The faster you walk, the quicker you’ll get to class AND it’ll raise your heart rate therefore raising your over all body temperature.  And lastly – don’t walk directly into the wind if you don’t have to.  Turn your head and watch out for sand in the eyes!

Hope my little tips help you stay a little warmer.  Winter is just around the corner!

Until then, Enjoy :)

Learning Beyond October 28, 2008

Have you ever thought about going farther with your education, or even your life?  Have you ever dreamed about studying in a foreign country or living there after college?  Have you ever thought about making your dreams come true?

Well today at the Learning Beyond Fair, these questions could be explored and more options were presented.  I learned a lot about studying abroad as well as different legal studies and service corps offered at Stevenson University and around the world!  How amazing would it be to study in London?  Or Argentina? Or even Hong Kong?  With study abroad you can study anywhere in the world and have an experience of a lifetime.  The fair put a big emphasis on study abroad with a corner filled with tables upon tabled of free information offered to students.

I highly recommend exploring all options.  Who knows where you’ll end up!  It just goes to show that the possibilities at Stevenson University are endless!

Old-Fashion Family Fun October 27, 2008

Happy (almost) Halloween!  This weekend I went home to do the traditional, or what we call traditional fun activities at the Warrenfeltz household.  In the spirit of the season, we gathered around the front porch and did something I adore – carve pumpkins.  Lame to some, but pretty sweet to my family and I.  My Dad’s and his girlfriend Sue’s pumpkins are in the top picture, and Tylor and my pumpkins are in the bottom. :)

Pretty awesome right?  Well aside from getting our hands grimy with digging for pumpkin seeds and then carving, we did do some clean activities.  Tylor and I took a walk to find acorns… but ended up chasing each other around like five year olds.

Later that evening we ate dinner and stuffed little candy bags.  Dad always puts old candy in them…. to show kids the true meaning of “trick” or “treat.”  It’s quite hilarious.  And then… last but not least – we watched It’s The Great Pumpkin – Charlie Brown.  It’s the first in the holiday series and I cannot WAIT for Thanksgiving and Christmas!!!

My No-Meat Progress October 23, 2008

Hello all :)   Morgan reminded me that I needed to get on here and give the what’s up with being vegetarian!  It’s going wonderful.  After awhile you really don’t want meat anymore.  My Mom said it would be an easy transition because I don’t eat red meat or pork in the first place.  But to tell the truth, I was worried about going vegetarian on campus because I wasn’t sure how well the food accommodates to my “no-meat” needs.  But the truth is – they have done an excellent job.  I’ve just substituted the meat in my omelets in the morning to vegetables – and added a side of fruit!  They have had tater tots every morning this week so I’m in tater tot heaven.  Today they were smashed up a little and they were INCREDIBLE!  Man.  Last night I had a Vegetarian Quesadilla from the other campus – talk about delicious!  And I got my protein through the black beans so that’s helpful.  I have also cut out soda from my diet and I’m in the process of eating less junk food as well.  I think it’ll be a good transition for me; a healthy transition.

But, I must admit – I will be slipping up this weekend.  You see, before I took this challenge I forgot about Tylor’s show… which means Marina gets to go to dinner after the show to her favorite place in the world – Buffalo Wild Wings.  Wings, are by far, my favorite food.  So instead of sitting there are paying 8 dollars for a salad I don’t want, I’m going to give into the meat pressure of society and pay my 8 dollars for wings.  But until Thanksgiving – that’ll be my first and last slip-up. :)

So that is my progress :)   And I’d recommend it to anyone.  Being vegetarian doesn’t necesarily mean you are starving and living off of nothing.  There are A TON of options.  Exploration is good.

Munch On :)

Scooters? Seriously? October 23, 2008

It never fails.  Someone is always having the time of their life around here doing the most childish but amusing things.  Last night, I was walking down the hallway with my friend on the way to the other campus and there were two boys in the hallway.  Now – I don’t know if they were super heroes of Stevenson University or what, but they were rolling around on their scooters like five year olds!  But the grin on their faces was priceless.

Later on I was on the elevator with the same boys who got on the up instead of the down.  Boys – can’t live with’em, can’t live without’em!

Ride on Boys :)

Out of the three women’s games yesterday evening, the women’s soccer team were the only to pull through with a defeat.  The field hockey team played at Caves at 4 – within the first half Salisbury was in the lead and led the way to their 3 to 1 victory.  Women’s soccer – finishing score 1 to 0 against York.  And last (but not least) the volleyball team lost in a heart crushing defeat against Goucher, 3-2.

Keep your heads up, Ladies.

Talk About Delicious. October 20, 2008

Now I know you’re thinking – What is that and why doesn’t it look so good?  Well truth be told – it was the best thing I have eaten at Rockland all semester.  That my friend – is a taco bar.  It was delicious to say the very least.  And it totally hit the spot!  At my house, my Dad makes taco’s EVERY Monday night (aka, Taco Night) and it is my favorite night of the week.  It was special to have them on this chilly Monday night; made me feel a little more at home.

I highly recommend the taco’s.  YUM is the only word I can think of right now.  Even my friend Maria, who has NEVER eaten a taco – LOVED it!  Good job SU!

It was a wonderful last meal before my vegetarian experiment begins :)

Weekend Wrap-Up October 20, 2008

Man I love me some ice cream :)

My weekend was fabulous with Tylor at his high school homecoming.  I heard from several students that VillaFest was a BLAST!  Next year – I’ll be there for sure.  I got in earlier than expected last night and finished up some last minute homework and added pictures to my “back home” page.

This morning I went to breakfast with the ladies and tried the morning tater tots.  YUM!  Morgan was right, they are AMAZING!  And then I went on with my normal day… when I was sitting at lunch with my friends Chelsea and O.

I love to challenge myself to new things… so I am going to turn vegetarian for a week and see how it works for me.  I’ll keep ya posted I’m sure – but I’m thinking every week I should have a new challenge to see if I can actually do things outside of my box.  I’m so excited.  I mean – I love fruits and vegetables.  So it SHOULD be a piece of cake… let’s hope!

Til Later – Enjoy :D

Can You Feel The HEAT? October 16, 2008

Chili – Anyone?

Today was the VillaFest chili cook-off outside in the Greenspring Quad.  Walking past you could see red beans and meat stuffed into pots, into cups, and into Students, Faculty, and Staffs mouths.  There was an assortment of cheese and plenty of crackers.  It smelled sooooooo gooooooood!!!  The judges (looking all professional in their Villafest shirts) sat outside of the Student Union with a tray full of chili infront of them.  Lucky women, I tell ya.

The cook-off is just the beginning of a fun-filled weekend.  Wild Stang is up and ready.  Tonight he was out and about at the Rockland Center in his Tux shirt – posing for pictures with President Manning!  He’s the biggest celebrity I know ;)

So come join the fun this weekend at Villafest. :)

Presidential Debate: Round Three. October 16, 2008

Round three in the Avalon Community center last night was a mix between awkward and intense.  McCain in an effort to save himself in the last presidential debate made cut-throat remarks about Obama and his financial plan.  But Obama, being the man he is – kept going strong through the debate steering clear of direct insults towards McCain.  Obama concluded after McCain’s tax cutting remark, that they both want to increase taxes, but for different groups.  I personally support Obama in his effort to raise taxes for wealthy Americans… it only seems fair.  But on the opposite side of the taxation fence, McCain wants to cut taxes for oil and gas companies.  (OK, Bush JR.).  The president is supposed to be supporting efforts to help the American PEOPLE not the American BUSINESSES.  I have this strange suspicion that McCain is one of those secretive supporters of the Bush Administration – not good for America.

But as Obama pointed out – McCain and his support for president Bush is not a secret.  McCain always fights back with ‘I am not President Bush’ – but he is a main supporter and I feel like that says A LOT about him as a candidate for President.  America is tired of Bush, we don’t need another one.

It is obvious to many Americans that the differences between the two candidates is abundant.  I’m not trying to push my personal views on anyone, but I do believe that having strong beliefs helps shape a well-rounded person.  It’s in America’s hands.  So speak up and shout out.  You decided who is in office next.

Cheers :)
