Wellness Wednesday: Second Day of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault September 25, 2008

Posted by Marina in : Informational Events , trackback

The follow up presentation of last night’s discussion of sexual assault and rape started right on time in the Avalon Community center at 7 p.m.  The Wellness Center and the Black Student Union were sponsors of the event.

Mothyna James, a four year Outreach Educator for Turn Around Inc., took a different more interactive approach to teaching young people of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Mostly made up of young women, the audience was asked to read true or false questions and everyone was asked to participate in the discussion of the answer.  Some questions got a little heated, as the young women presented both sides of the arguments, showing a passion for the topic at hand.  We were asked to define sexual assault as well as where is the line drawn at?  Once again, we were educated on the word “consent.”

Tonight ended the Wellness Wednesday presentation in such a wonderful and informative way.  Nurse Pam raffled off Dunkin Donuts gift cards to the students who participated all week.  The BSU got their picture taken with Mothyna James, as the rest of us grabbed keychains and pamphlets.  Events like tonight are not only informative, but highly recommended.  It’s good to know as much as you possibly can to help yourself stay out of the way of any dangers in life.

Have a wonderful weekend :) If you’re traveling be careful – I heard the rain is coming!!!

But most importantly – Enjoy :D
